Im working on a trade with someone and he asked me to include his gas to get to VT in the $4$. Is this typical?

No, that is stupid. Unless he was going with the sole purpose of buying this specific beer/s he is trading you, which is highly unlikely.

No. Never ever. It would get pretty complicated if we would have to figure in every expense incurred along the way to getting every beer we trade. I'm sure the beers you're trading have other expenses that came directly or indirectly with them. Question - is he a new trader?

Gas or other expenses can only be factored in when muling a.k.a. gopickitupformebro, even then it would only be acceptable if they were traveling to the brewery solely to buy the beer for you. If this is a $4$ trade the only cost that should be factored in is the cost of the beer, period.

I dont think he's new, ill check. He said since its rare VT mead it was more expensive because the brewers raised the bees since they were lavae.

Only if you charge him the "I am awesome so I deserve more" just because. Tell him no or tell him to pound sand. That isn't how it works....unless he wants to develope a bad reputation. I am driving 180 miles this weekend for a trade and do I care about gas money? No. It's actually a pleasure of mine to be able to help someone out. And that is how you develope trade partners. Ain't that right, Dave!

    MEAD?!?? That's not beer. REPORTED!

On topic though, it is not only good practice to charge for gas but for all meals consumed on the trip. If there is any sort of traffic, I charge what I charge at my job per hour since I could be spending that time working instead of getting you beer, you lazy pathetic loser.

On days I pick up beer, instead of driving my Prius, I borrow my friend's Ferrari, too. Just to be safe, I lash a Hummer to it and tow that.

Definitely need to factor in the wear and tear on your car whenever you go to these releases - I usually charge 50 cents per mile just to be safe.

You clearly don't drive a Ferrari. $3/mile. No negotiations.

    Haha that is hilarious.

So if I received multiples of one beer in a previous trade and decided to trade one away later to someone else, can I charge a double shipping fee?

If he is only going there to get something you asked him to go get for you, yes, you should pay all his costs.

Otherwise, as others have already said, fuck no.

I had to replace 2 tires, so you know I'm definitely going to factor those into the value of any beers I trade.

I made a spur of the moment growler trip at a trade partner's request 2 weeks ago just so I could ship the growlers out the next day so he could have them in time for a tailgate on that Saturday. I disrupted my plans, made a 45 minute each way drive and never even thought to mention to him that it was a hassle or that I should be treated well for it. I had never traded with him before either. It's just what we do.
