Kids are fed and it's time for some Daddy Time- sat watching The Ashes (that's cricket if you were wondering- the world's greatest sport, but then, being English, I'm somewhat biased) on some dodgy online video feed, with a host of world-class brews to keep me company...

    Started with this:

And then moving on to this:

More to follow, unless I get too pissed off with the lack of Aussie wickets...

    Come on England!!!

    Cheers!

Taste off Heaven between two, too sexy, east coast, river stouts:
Old Heathen from Weyerbach wins at 4.44 vs Mother's Milk at 4.
Romance in a bottle. Great with brie & blue cheese after dinner of late tomatoes still from the garden.
Wow! You must try these in your winter.

Weyerbacher (Easton on the Delaware) Old Heathen
    look: 3.75 | smell: 4.25 | taste: 4.5 | feel: 4.75 | overall: 4.5

Let it warm! A slow stout.
Best Stout so far. (since tasting a couple of stouts have out-notched Old H.

    Strong so appreciate slowly.
    Concur with A bros' review.

Blackest. A Cappacino like head: firm, tall, lasting.
Smell - December wet leaves, long early winter walk.
Taste - Soothing and strong. Coffee, chocolate, bitter, soaring.
Feel - Dreamy kiss. Feathers. Tongue tickler.
Overall Arc - Maybe best stout tried this year.

Bottle avail at Whole Foods nj. Case discount.

    (drive carefully, drink slowly!)

Re-tasted and I hold with this high review, must taste against Boris, Old Rasputin, Founders and more because they are all so great and so clustered together around 4.4.

Mother's Milk (Kingston on the Hudson NY)

    look: 3.75 | smell: 4 | taste: 4 | feel: 4 | overall: 4

My diet is pale ales and stouts, often layered on each other, so that's my preference.

Appearance: Energetic heads atop a classic stout appearance - pitch black. head leaves a bit of lace and some contoured levels as we consume it.

Smell: Smoke. The smokiest, wood fire stout I know, just like river road in rhinebeck ny (x river from the brewery). Wet fall hudson valley leaves, wet cliffs of earth, a bit of chocolate in the distance with train smoke and diesel. Now we're at the Rhinecliff station.

Taste: Malt and wood fire smoke, followed by hot chocolate, then the lactose, then coffee, hoppy bitter (great combination) and smoke wisp finish. Dry, tingly, satisfying.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied, a bit creamy with ample carbonation. Sexy and smooth.

Overall: Original. Most smokey. Nostalgic. Romantic. For smokers and for wood fire builders, hudson valley dwellers (or river valley dwellers) down here in the holler the smoke nestles....

2003 Stone RIS. Brought in and shared with my local bottle shop. Just hope they will remember my kindness when I am attempting to buy a case of each of the BCBS beers when they get them in ;-)

Hands down best non barrel-aged stout I have ever had. The complexity was insane, no alcohol at all and no oxidation what so ever. A real treat and wonderful experience.
