    Hello Beer Maniacs,
I love a really good wheat beer that is just refreshing, smooth, and packed full of delicious flavors. My question is:
-What is the best wheat beer(s) you've ever had?
-What's the best wheat beer that is widely distributed in America?
-What's the best local wheat beer in your area?

Thanks for the replies and advice! I apologize in advance if this was already asked in the forums.

Best in recent memory for me was Hofbrau Traunstein's Gastro-Weisse.

i can't help you with the middle of your three questions, but i'm partial to FFF's Gumballhead as the best local option, and New Glarus's Dancing Man as one of the better wheats made in the US.

Locally? Although its seasonal Sixpoint Apollo is great.

Live Oak Hefeweizen, with Weihenstephaner Hefe weissebier a close second.

Quite fond of Franziskaner and Tucher, however, quality can be inconsistant.

Only things I'd add to what's been listed above are Ayinger Brau-Weisse and Ayinger Ur-Weisse. And for something made in America, Yazoo Hefeweizen.

I'm not a wheat fan or a hefe fan by any means but live oak hefe completely blew me away the time I had it. I wouldn't normally order a hefe but I knew it was a popular beer with great reviews and I'm glad I did. An amazing beer. Wish I could have it again

Paulaner hefeweizen. Classic brew. North American offerings I'd go SN Keller or Unibroue Don Dieu. Little SS is good too, but I consider that more of an IPA than a wheat.

Live Oak Hefe and Hops and Grain Alt are 2 local wheats that satisfy all my wheat beer cravings...Aventinus Eisbock is a nice choice for something heavier and maltier.

Weihenstephaner Hefe-Weissbier is king. I also love Hoegaarden, Hitachino Nest White Ale, St. Bernardus Witbier, Oberon, SN Kellerweis, and Lil Sumpin' Sumpin'.

As stated earlier, if you love hefe, Weihenstephaner is very hard to beat.

Don't know, I'm not familiar with anything local.

Amen to the Tucher. First few times I had it I thought it was great, but recently there have been a lot of quality control issues... astringency, sourness, etc...

I've always liked Unibroue's Don De Dieu. It's like a wheatwine with a Belgian yeast twist.

Lagunitas "Lil Sumpin" would be my number one. Gumball Head is pretty good. Dont under estimate the classic wit Hoegaarden.

“What is the best wheat beer(s) you've ever had?” If I can find them fresh I really enjoy drinking Weihenstephan Hefeweizen and Ayinger Brau-Weisse.

“What's the best wheat beer that is widely distributed in America?” It is my understanding that Sierra Nevada Kellerweis is distributed nationally.

“What's the best local wheat beer in your area?” Oh boy, lots to pick from: Sly Fox Royal Weisse, Stoudt’s Heifer-in-Wheat, Victory Sunrise Weiss, Victory Whirlwind Wit, Troegs Dreamweaver Wheat, ….

    Cheers!
