Why doesn't 3 Floyds make anything new that isn't an IPA?

And any of their non-IPA year-round offerings are average at best (Robert the Bruce). And I don't care what people say...Zombie Dust and Gumbalhead are IPAs.

Sure they make some great IPAs but how about some variety? Or is there a reason for this?

Is it news to you that breweries make a lot of IPAs? It's the craft beer climate right now, and it's probably not going to change for a while.

The way things are going no brewery is going to make anything but IPAs

Well, it has all of the characteristics of a Pale Wheat Ale.. In fact, I think I noticed even less hop character than Lil Sumpin Sumpin.

They make a lot that isnt IPAs but most of their offerings are IPAs.

    BackMasking - oatmeal stout
    Behemoth - barleywine
    Gumballhead is a pale ale

They also have numerous stouts and porters

They just released Backmasking (Oatmeal Stout), Man-o-Awe (Mild Pale), Live a Rich Life (Belgian IPA), and Immutable Dusk (Dark Ale).

Trends point to making IPAs, which is what they are sticking to, but the other releases at the brewery have been good. Even ones on tap only.

How about mixing in a sour? Milk stout? Oatmeal stout? Non-Dark Lord RIS? Berliner Weiss?

Alpha Klaus is great but only because it is hopped up to the point that it more resembles an IPA than a typical Porter.

I am not really worried. There are so many other breweries that make so much better beer. Do you want whats on the label or in the bottle?

Why doesn't Cantillon brew anything but lambics and gueuzes? Why doesn't Fantôme make anything but saisons? Why doesn't Crooked Stave do anything but American wilds and saisons? Why doesn't Allagash do anything that's not Belgian? Why doesn't Jester King brew anything that doesn't have farmhouse yeast in it? Do I even have to mention the Alchemist in this (less relevant after the recent release)?

The answer to all these questions (except the latter) and yours is another question: why stop doing what works? If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

They do have other beers that aren't IPAs that are good (Moloko, Brian Boru, Alpha Klaus, Black Sun, basically any seasonal that isn't an IPA is good to great).

Why doesn't Stillwater or Upright brew something that's not a Saison?
Drie Fonteinen and all those Sour beers, brew something else?
-edit-THANATOPSIS said the same exact thing.

Some brewers like to focus on one thing.

It's not their strong-suit. Why doesn't Russian River make more Stouts?

Right but they don't. See Bruce, Robert the

When they do something else it isn't nearly as good as their IPA's.

Maybe thread should have been titled "Why is 3 Floyds a World Class IPA brewery and barely above average with everything else"

I'd say they should stick with what they're good at- hoppy beers.
