    What's the limit?

And what is the most you have ever paid for a single beer?

I think the limit for me is probably around $30. Unless of course I could get my hand on Utopia. But outside of that one, it would have to be something special.

I took a trip to Atlanta last year to visit the Porter Beer Bar, knowing they had a bottle of Sink the Bismarck. I walked in, already a bit tipsy, and said "I'll have a bottle of Sink the Bismarck, please!" The bartender seemed confused, and she got another coworker. He told me I need eight people to share it with because of the alcohol cap in Georgia. As he was about to grab it, he mentioned that it's a $400.00 bottle. I told him "no it's not." and got something else. But, I did spend about $30 for a bottle of Mikkeller's Black Fist.

What it's worth to me. It's a simple concept that has nothing to do with beer.

I know some of you guys will spend a lot more than this, but my record recently $12 for a 12oz bottle or New England Red from Trillium. It was barrel age in wine barrels and it was definitely worth it. I haven't gotten into the whole sour thing, mostly because I can't afford it. When I have more income I can see $20 - $30 for bombers becoming something I do, because the few good ones I've tried have been an experience.

Glad I don't have much of a taste for BA stouts. That seems like a very expensive addiction.

I spent 9 dollars on a 8 ounce pour of Pliny the Younger. That is about my limit, I just wanted to get it to say Ive had it. It was worth experience.

On a total basis, the most I spent was $42.99 for a 750 ml of Drie Fonteinen Schaerbeekse Kriek. On a per oz. basis, the most I spent was $22.99 ($1.81/oz.) for a 375 ml of The Lost Abbey Angel's Share.

For a single single 12oz bottle, probably Avery Uncle Jacobs Stout. It was like $13 or so. Too bad BCBS, Parabola, and many others are better for a good amount less. But as an occasional ticker it was worth a try.

A few years ago I walked into a bar in Boston and they had $10 Heady Toppers...let's just say I needed to call my wife for a ride home.

I paid $48 at a bar in Chicago for a bottle of St. Lamvinus. Given the opportunity, I would gladly do it again, but I can't see paying too much more for a beer.

The most I've paid at a shop is $17 for a 375ml bottle of Lost Abbey Red Poppy. The most I've paid at a bar is ~$25 for a 375ml bottle of Russian River Consecration.

$5.99 for a 12oz of BCBS this year
$25 for a 750 of CCB Big Sound Barrel aged at the tasting room in 2012

I think that is about the most I'd pay when sober for a beer, and these 2 were just one and done events
As in I would not regularly pay that much even for whales on a regular basis

When buying expensive beers, I usually look at price per ounce, so the most I would probably pay for something super rare/special/renowned would be $2/oz so $50 + tax for a 750 mL, $44 for a 22 oz, $24 for a 12 oz, etc. But it would have to be something I'm absolutely DYING to try and would never get the chance to again. Some of my most expensive purchases: The Bruery Cuir I paid $30 + tax for a 750 mL (~$1.19/oz), The Bruery Fruet I paid $33 for a 750 mL (~$1.30/oz), Mikkeller Beer Geek Brunch Weasel Cognac Edition I paid $14 for an 8.5 oz bottle at a bar ($1.64/oz), I think I paid like $16 for a 12.7 oz bottle of Mikkeller Black Hole at a bar (~$1.26/oz), and my girlfriend is informing me that we paid $22 for a 12.7 oz bottle of Cantillon Classic Gueuze at a bar ($1.73/oz). I thought it was less but she was the one who ordered it, so there ya go, that's the most expensive liquid I've ever imbibed. All of these were totally worth it too.

At retail: probably $30 for a 750ml bottle. My limit for whats reasonable has since come down though, and I rarely spend more than $15, unless it's something truly rare and special, but even then I usually pass it by.

At a bar: Not sure, but I know my brother and a friend and I split a 'loon once that was probably in the $40-50 range.

~ $30 for a 750 mL is the most I ever have (though several times) and I doubt I'd spend much more unless it was a very, very special occasion.

How much is Dark Lord per ounce if you include airfare and hotel?

I bought a bottle of the 2012 Utopias at retail price. I can't imagine paying any more than that for a beer unless you count travel expenses.

On my last trip to Philly I spent 33$ on a bottle of Allagash Interlude and 20$ for a single bottle of Russian River Tempation. Both were worth it to me but it's not something I would or could do often.
