WAIT!!!!! someone took the Ovila? I'm scared the box may implode now.....

 

I think it probably has to do with newer traders getting their hands on some of these bigger bottles like BA Abraxas because of the growth of the industry, and then they try to get the most out of it. I've only traded with established guys, all of you and a couple of regular traders. I have never had a bad experience. Great boxes, timely communication, and little to no "negotiation', so the whole value trading scene kind of takes a back seat.

 

I agree while heartedly with this view. I was a new trader last year but was lucky enough to get in with a bunch of established traders. We send boxes back and forth. Including with guys here I feel like sometimes I'm the one sending the better beer and other times I'm receiving the better beer, but because I trade with the same groupof people it all evens out and beer karma rules all

 

I am still a relatively new trader (1 year in), however I have noticed that lately I am losing interest in trading altogether because of the "scene" and basically have given up hunting most limited releases/hyped beers, let alone whalez. I am more interested in BIF's and building a solid reputation among others in that group of people because I have seen the generosity and realize it aligns with what I wish the beer trading world was. Honestly it's more fun not having to chase things and letting them come to you, and I am more a believer in beer karma now than ever thanks to this and other BIF's I've been in.

 

Y'all are all speaking my language. I have a few established partners that I would rather just send a surprise box too than track anything down, and BIFs and LIFs are way more fun to me than trying to ever look in the ISO/FT hell.

 

BIFs/LIFs are the way to go. I don't trade much but if I was going to I would just do it with people in this group. But I think this more out of my own laziness, as I find it easier to post something I want in here and see if I can work something out with one of you guys

It's funny--my trades end up being more like 2-way BIFs. I pick up sweet beers in my travels, contact some BAs I appreciate, and then see if they want to send me a box in return. It's been a great way to get a cross section of beers from different regions.

 

This. I've had great success in direct trades, but have so much more fun in BIFs, building a box, doing hints&hauls, and there's so much less pressure on what goes into the box as long as it's good. Being a part of threads like this one (or the other couple BIFs I've done) leads to enough ready-made trading partners that I am already comfortable dealing with.

 

I love this idea too, I've done something like it but really only with friends I knew outside of BA first (so far, not because I wouldn't do it otherwise, just haven't gotten there yet)

 

For those who saw my massive beer trip in the winter that's what I did with my buddy in Texas anything great I saw along the way I put together a box for him. He sent me some gems he knew I would miss it was great

 

Ok, 2 pm has come and passed. We had 16 guesses including Lurpy's suggestions. The winning guess only got 5 out of 10, with everyone else at 4 or less.

It was a relief to see him not win a LIF, good thing I was looking for random guesses and not humor, beer reviews, breast milk chugging, or 10% stout baths.

 

I guess for someone like me who could care less about value and more about ticking it's just seems like a kick in the nad bag anytime I check out the ISO forum. Hope to bomb some more of y'all's porches in the future. Will send repair materials with the box.

I don't know how far Merrimack NH is from any of you--

New place opening this weekend. I don't know anything about them other than that the son of a friend of
my wife's is working for them.

 

Not too far away, but have a tasting on the 14th. There are a bunch of small breweries popping up in nh, unfortunately most suck
