Been hearing a lot of noise about this one here in CT the past couple of weeks. The noise is justified!!!!!

Golden Monkey from Victory. Went to the brewery about a month ago and picked up some stuff of theirs (only live a little over an hour away, so I have easy access to their stuff, but never really picked any of it up) and got a 750 of this among some other stuff. It's a solid tripel. I've heard very mixed things from others. I don't think it's as bad as some have said, but I also don't think it's amazing either. The other 750s I picked up were Wild Devil (already drank, thought it was incredibly mediocre, way worse than I thought it would be), white monkey and V-12 (both of which I haven't had yet, will try them soon).

Failed Nightcap Update Part Two: Electric Boogaloo: It Just Got Real(er)

So, the wife wanted a beer. With the label worn off from two weeks in the beer ice chest, she grabs a Samichlaus and asks, "What's this?" I tell her, "Well, it's a lager, but it's really potent; like, nine and a half, if I remember correctly." (Spoiler alert: I did not remember correctly.*)

Of course, her immediate response is, "Ooh, I like lagers!" This quickly turned to, "Oh my God, it's like booze. Liquid sugar; candied fruit." Which....yeah, that about sums it up, actually.

So...........now I'm nursing down a Samichlaus in between sips of my Union Jack. The wife has moved on to water, or some crap like that. Damned if I'm going to let this go to waste!

The bottle represents me right about now. Also, the beer didn't have much head, but it tastes and feels fine.

(BTW, thanks @utopiajane for the beer!)

*14%. Dear Lord. According to the BA entry, this was once the strongest beer in the world. ISO: BBA Samichalus! (But not really. This shit is so freaking sweet, my dentist just woke up in a cold sweat.)

Black Butte Porter by Deschutes. Internet photo. Thought I had my own photo since this is the 5th beer of the 6 pack but I guess I never took one. Tastes like a watered down Porter.

A nice and enjoyable IPA. Taste of grapefruit, tangerine, lemon zest, orange peel, citrus rind, floral, grass, pine, light caramel, bread, and floral/grassy earthiness. Nice pine/citrus rind bitterness on the finish. Nice crisp malt/bitterness balance with a lightly sticky finish. A bit more tropical in the aromas. It was quite tasty.

This was a solid helles. Showing some age here on the nose. Aromas were way off with some significant estery fruits out there. Taste was fine though. Taste of lemon, pear, cracker, biscuit, light honey, herbal, grass, light pepper, and yeast earthiness. Slight earthy bitterness on the finish balances. Very smooth, crisp, and clean on the flavor and finish. A bit on the bland side for a Helles, but not watery. It was pleasant and enjoyable.

Imperial ESB. This is damn good. Some moderate grapefruit, citrus peel, pine, grassy hops; with caramel, toffee, toast, brown sugar, light roast, and a bit of raisin. Very well balanced malt and hop bitterness for the size of this beer. Finish is very smooth with a fair bit of stickiness from the hops and a bit of creaminess. All around delicious.
