I had a chance to visit Toppling Goliath over July 4th weekend and crushed several pints of Pseudo Sue over a couple of days. I think it's become my favorite Pale Ale. Alas, I cannot get it where I live. So I started wondering, what other pale ales/IPAs are most similar to Pseudo Sue's taste profile?

I would assume Zombie Dust is pretty close.

Zombie Dust is really along the same lines... as stated a few times above. You'll probably have to trade for it, but well worth it if you're able to score some fresh Dust.

I would think any all Citra IPA would give you what your looking for. Love Sue as well.

It's a unique beer. ZD, as mentioned, is close, but not up to snuff. Bedlam from Ale Asylum has some Sue characteristics, I think, but definitely not on the same level. The Bachelor w/ Citra from Societe is pretty close too, but their yeast strain is too different from TGs and it shows in the finish.

Anything featuring citra will get you in the ballpark, but it's fairly unique.

I have a feeling we're going to some some crazy posts like people recommending Pliny, Myrcenary, 60 Minute, Bud Light, etc. though :stuck_out_tongue:

Nothing really compares for me, but fresh squeezed from deschutes has a nice citrus profile and is readily available. But as I said, nothing compares IMO. cheers!

I don't think anything matches up to psuedosue. yeast/citra combo makes it worth trading for. hope somebody will make something similar to it for you soon, or you can develop a trade partner in Iowa.

Never had opportunity to try PsuedoSue, but was at was at beer tasting event that had Citra Dog from Thirsty Dog Brewing Company. Was later on in the day, but remember liking it, and I know it is an IPA, not APA .. but wondering if anyone has had both and how do they compare? I can get the Citra Dog in NY but haven't purchased any bottles

I was able to get case of Zombie dust when visiting 3Floyds on way to Chicago last year, that was great, would love to get another when I drive by again in 2weeks but will not make it to TG territory

I'm liking all the comparisons to ZD - means I won't have to shell out for a plane ticket to Iowa

I've had Zombie Dust multiple times, and while it's a fantastic beer in its own right, you can't really mistake it for Sue. Looks like I'll have to find a trading partner like you suggested.

I don't think Zombie Dust holds a candle to Pseudo Sue, nothing really matches that giant citrus nose you get when you smell a fresh one. I think it's the best pale ale on the planet and I've had lots.

Must have been something wrong, either with my schnozz or the beer at the tap room, but I didn't get the citrus rush at all, nor did I care for the PseudoSue. Maybe I can find some SortaSue or MoreOrLessSue...

I'm with you. It's different and unique, but I wasn't a huge fan either. Sometimes citra beers have a weird vegetal thing going on and I've gotten that from my two experiences with PS.

Citra-Hero from Revolution was Sue-like, but not as good, and not in your market. Sorry, not much help I guess :slight_frown:

Ditto for me, unfortunately I have a "green onion" thing with PS. I think there's a BA thread on the green onion taste. I also get it in ZD, O'so Hop Whoopin', Hop Stoopid, and some others. I didn't used to get this flavor; it changed over the past five years. First time I had ZD I loved it... now can't really enjoy it. :slight_frown:

    I'm
with you too. I didn't like it at the brewpub, but those bottles that I brought home were like another beer. In the bottle, Pseudo Sue shows its best side.
