I was able to have these last night after all...

Black Butte XXIV (2012) and Abyss (2012).
I planned on doing a blind taste and asked my brother to pour these for us. As soon as he brought my glasses I knew which was the Abyss, it had a beautiful Mocha colored head (picture does not do justice here) that stuck around much longer than that of BB XXIV! It was not looking good for BB XXIV. The Abyss also had a better aroma. I could smell the Oak and a bit of the Bourbon in it. BBXXIV did not have much of an aroma, well, not as pronounced as that of the Abyss. When it came to taste, however, the Abyss tasted a bit oxidized it had a lot of great characters like, dark fruit, molasses, and an oak-y bourbon finish but the flavors were muted and muddled by the oxidation. BBXXIV started extremely smooth, both in taste and mouth-feel. I was able to discern every flavor advertised and more. I was really hoping the Abyss would become better as it warmed up but the flavors never developed further. On the other hand BBXXIV got better as it warmed up and was never behind on taste or mouth-feel. BBXXIV has aged beautifully and beat the Abyss (2012) unanimously!!

I am sad for Abyss but also excited because this years batch (XXVI) is still on the shelves. I cant wait to get a few to age!! I advise you all to do the same.

    Cheers!!

    21st Amendment Hop Crisis

Poured an off-yellow color with a thick, frothy head. A slight grapefruit aroma to begin that grew a little stronger at the end. The taste is that of citrusy hops, and the 9.7% ABV is definitely present. You can't go wrong with an Imperial IPA though! 4/5

My confession is that i am far to critical of myself and it just ends up holding me back.

When I first started getting into craft beer about 4 years ago, I walked into the local beer shop and was looking for something different and new. The owner suggested and it's still one of my favorite beers. I don't drink it as often as I should. Cheers!

Firestone Walker and bourbon barrels go together like PB&J. Simply amazing. For me this is twice (maybe thrice) as nice as weiss. To each his own. Lots of love people. Cheers!!
