    So, today is a dark day here at chez Hopgoddess. I have traded and purchased WAY more hoppy/short-lived beers than I could possibly consume and today is the day of reckoning. I've taken all the beers out of my fridge and am now engaging in a one-woman pollice verso, making a decision which I can reasonably keep a little longer, those I can still drink and those which must meet the true death by being poured down the drain. I feel very guilty that I let so many great beers just languish and die back there in the dark recesses of my fridge. Some I just can't bear to execute, so I'm drinking them, perhaps in the face of common sense, e.g., this Surly Abrasive canned on 1/21/2014. It's actually not terrible. My apologies to beer, I'll do better next year. . .

    Briefly,

    2014- Smells of coffee and booze. Taste is much the same: coffee, cocoa, EtOH, bitter.
    2012- Huge aroma, can smell it from across the room: figs and molasses. Taste is a creamy smooth blend of chocolate, licorice, and toffee.

    Ok, seriously: I've always liked Narwhal, but I've only had it relatively fresh. Well, consider my eyes opened! The 2012 knocked my socks off. Put some away if you can!

    Crooked Stave Raspberry Origins. This is some pretty f'ing tasty stuff, especially while watching Devin Funchess score his third TD against Appalachian State. Too bad it's #improperglassware.

    Since the rest of the world won't forget 2007... neither will Michigan. And that's OK with me.
