I saw that post earlier and was inspired by it to buy the mix pack. I had the
four pack bowling pin bottle version of Prior DD. I would characterize this
brew as a black lager, and it is tasty. From the video I attached it would appear
that the Prior DD had a lighter color than the Saranac.

I also had Ballantine India Pale back in the early eighty's so I'll be curious to
try the new stuff that's out.

SKA brewing is skankin' its way to SoCal. Tastes like saxophones (which are delicious).

Islay Whiskey, love the smoke and peat, seawater hits. Love smoke in my whiskey, don't like it a bit in my beer.

    Reviews:

Very nice dry stout. Taste of chocolate, cocoa, coffee, roasted malt, toast, dark bread, light dark fruit, light char. Good amount of roasted bitterness on the finish. Good bitterness/sweetness balance of roasted malts. Good robustness of flavors. Smooth, crisp, and lightly creamy finish. Very enjoyable.

Great Eisbock! Taste of big caramel, toffee, toast, brown sugar, brown bread, raisin, cherry, plum, fig, light chocolate. Very well balanced malt and dark fruit notes, and very smooth for the ABV. A lot of nice complexity. Delicious stuff.

Pretty good. Taste of apricot, lemon, pear, apple, white grape, pepper, and floral/grass; with a moderate amount of honey/bready malt balance. Good amount of yeast spiciness on the finish. Smooth and pretty crisp sipping. Funkiness isn't too huge, but otherwise more of a BSPA. I enjoyed it.

Yeah- it did look kinda sad, didn't it? I'm just not in the mood to wash another glass, though.. I did pour another Double Black right now, (I'm on a beer/bathroom break from the movie, which is awesome btw), so I may as well have caved to the inevitable from the start. :grinning:

I'm really enjoying the Ballantine IPA, and there's nothing quite like it out there. It is very likely different from what you recall, because it's based on an earlier formulation which is stronger and more bitter. Definitely give it a shot, though- it's a real bargain on top of everything else.
