Put the last two of these away. Now I need something a bit more sweet...

Tonight is the first of two Orval nights. A good friend is visiting from out of town and tonight we are splitting a vertical of three bottles of Orval bottled approximately one year apart in 2012, 2011, and 2010, starting with the 2012, which poured into a Duvel glass foams up just as a Duvel would poured into the same glass. Since we have two bottles per year, each from the same bottling, tomorrow night we'll do the 3 beers side by side.

Since I've long had the feeling that Orval is actually many beers in one bottle because changes in ways that make it almost a different beer from one time to the next as it ages, tonight is the night to begin putting that to the taste test.

Three Floyds BrooDoo Harvest Ale. One of my favorite wet-hopped beers. Only 2 days old! Most wet-hopped beers I've had have a big green, resinous intensity to them. This one has very intense flavors, but they are more focused on fruits. Peach, melon, grapefruit, orange, and floral all balanced with a nice carmel sweetness. Very juicy and not as bitter as one would expect a Floyds wet-hopped beer to be. Ya, this is good.

Another night of breakfast for dessert.

And some Handsome. Still love this album as much today as I did when I was in high school and this first came out.

A fourth new beer? On a Saturday? Over 11% for a nightcap?

The Duvel made me do it.

    Edit: this is delicious.

Now time for some dessert, it was nice of the beer store owner to cellar it for a year in his cooler. This is some delicious Founders Imperial Stout.

Sadly, these are the last two beers from my (first, hopefully) SN Fall Pack-
    [IMG]

I said before that it's got a Brown Ale thing going for it, and that ain't a bad thing. It's very drinkable taken on its own merits.

    Some more Autumnal music-

    and wine for the mind."

    (I'm pretending it's about beer tonight )

Another Oktoberfest for me tonight and a very solid offering in my books
    [IMG]

Looks and smells like the type of O'fests I DIG! Nose highlights the classic Munich malt profile giving off toffee/caramel sweetness with a touch of herbal hop pop. Flavor is dead on in my book. Munich malts flavors really shine. Toasted malts with caramel sweetness, nice herbal/grassy hop bitterness...the combo makes it very tea-like, nothing over the top....and ends with a nutty finish. Great balance. Clean. Great offering of the style.

    Prost!

 Canned 8/28, and on my second today. Had a Daytime and All Day before the sun went down :stuck_out_tongue: I think I really do prefer this one to Two Hearted. A little drier and a little pinier (possibly just a smaller dry hop). Glad I got a case of these cans, that's for sure :grinning:

If any Aphex fans haven't bought his new one yet, it's more than worth it. Cheers!
