Thanks for the kind words, not sure what will be more annoying all the insurance company hassle up till the surgery or the 4-8 week recovery in the middle of the Holidays. Just had to post pone a trip to NOLA next week after we got the news she needed surgery. Its not too complicated, but its removing a benign mass. Has to come out sooner than later.

looking for help...I just saw Zoe from Maine at a store near me. But it had 4/15/14 date on the bottle. Is that too old for this beer? I know its an amber but looks like it has a lot of hops too. Thanks to any and all that can help.

I've heard their beers somehow fall off faster than most, so my first instinct is yes, that's too old. With that said, you're right that it's an amber ale, so that takes some emphasis off of the age. So, I would boil it down to 2 things:

    1) Is it priced at an amount you don't mind wasting if it turns out to be terrible? (MBC is generally a bit pricy, so I could see where it might be)
    2) Are you looking for a hoppy amber (in which case pass) or a malty amber (in which case proceed).

If you don't have a strict preference, I think you're fine to buy it; 6 months is not enough to cause serious oxidation problems so the beer should not necessarily have any flaws; that said, it definitely won't be as hoppy as fresh. If it's your first time tasting the beer, it is commonly recommended to "try it fresh first" but then again, if this might be your only opportunity to ever try it, well, tickers gotta tick.

full disclosure: I've not ever tasted this particular beer. I've had lots from MBC and have never been disappointed, and I'm pretty knowledgeable about how beer 'works', but technically my advice does not come with firs- hand experience with that brew.

Will definitely keep your family in my thoughts and prayers and hope everything will be alright @jawas . Dealing with insurance companies is the worst! They insist you have coverage but they are total dicks when it comes to paying out claims or covering procedures. Good luck with everything and I hope it's all resolved quickly.

I generally agree with @Lehighace06. I will add that most Maine beers, with the exception of Lil One and their stouts and porter, are hoppy. That includes this beer. While it is probably still good, it likely is not what it is supposed to taste like.

So I just has a first. The FedEx guy wouldn't even carry the boxes to my porch. He knocked on the door and by the time I got my dog to get out of my way he was already back at the truck. I got a little concerned but when I opened the door he just pointed down to the garage. It looks like there are more than one of you that is responsible for this porch bomb. Pron to follow After I eat
