Apologize if it's been done before... that said, have you ever found yourself drain pouring a highly rated beer? I'm talking about something that would make fellow advocates go nuts. I'll refrain from answering until I find out if there's any enthusiasm in this post. Cheers!

Drain pours are for suckers. Drink your milk, kids.

EDIT: Only thing I can remember drain pouring was an infected Fantastic Voyage.

I've drain poured 3 beers, none that would cause a soul to cry.

I drained poured DFH 120 about 6 or 7 years ago. Haven't went back since, although I'd like to give it another try. I absolutely LOVE IPAs, but there was something completely off-putting about this one. I never reviewed it, so there's nothing to look back on, but I distinctly remember it almost making me sick. The only other beers that have done that to me in my life are of the malt liquor variety, circa my 20's, when it went down the wrong pipe.

I don't drain pour any beer. But if I did, it would have been Sump. I don't know if it was a bad batch, but the coffee tasted so burnt, that it covered up everything else in the beer.

DFH 120 Minute was not my favorite, but I finished it. But at around $10 a bottle, give or take, I'd not return to the well.

If I spend the kind of money needed for those, they will be drank no matter how hard.

I tried to give Cuvee Freddy (89 points) a chance knowing that I love gueuzes and didn't hate the other Flanders beers I've had, but ultimately I had to dump it out. I poured it straight out of the refrigerator and sipped it occasionally as it warmed to room temp, but the blast of balsamic vinegar mixed with an oaky brown ale was just not my jam.

I really don't think 120 should be considered an IPA in any traditional sense of the word. It's very malt-forward and really aligns more with barleywine stylistically, at least to my palate.

I've drain-poured two beers ever, and neither of them were highly regarded by any metric.

I actually drain poured a SNPA a few months ago. Maybe it was an old bottle or something, but I was not digging it. Life's too short to drink beer that is not enjoyable.

I understand completely, but I'm not trying to debate the proper style classification of DFH 120. The brewer calls it an IPA, so I'll refer to it as an IPA. The point is that while I wish I hadn't drain poured the beer at all, it really was a disappointing experience. I think this discussion alone merits another go-round, especially since 6 or 7 years have passed.

I have actually drain poured 3 DFH 120. After the first one I tried it again after I found some aged two years because it is supposed to be better and was still awful to me. The third one was after I had been developing a palate for about 3 years and still could not stand it. I finally gave up. I do love WWS though.

Other than that the only other beers I drain poured is when I opened a 2nd bomber of something I suddenly got too buzzed to finish it. And an infected Hitachino Espresso Stout.

I hope nobody kills me but I drain poured a Lindemans Gueuze Renée Cuvé just last night. To be fair to me, it was a big bottle and nobody else in my company wanted it after one sip. I wasn't crazy about it because it was too weird for me and smelled like piss. Nevertheless, I drank about 3/4 of the bottle and that was all I could drink anyway. The only other drain pours were a Westbrook Gose and a Left Hand Milk Stout Nitro. In each case I finished most of the bottle or can but dumped out the rest because I couldn't deal with the taste. All are highly rated.

Agreed...if you've given it a chance and it's that bad, then just move on to the next one.

Good point. Just to clarify, the DFH 120 was drain poured after 3/4 of the glass was gone.

I have drain poured many, many beers. Way too many calories in these things to just waste on crappy tasting beer.

Highest rated one is probably Dark Lord. I tried to like it so much. Tried it cooler, warmer, nada. It was just a terrible brew, no way around it.
