I think I actually lost some respect for NEBCo now that they are crumbling to the demands of some internet bullies. They should keep the name no matter how silly it actually is. Nothing they are doing is wrong except in the eyes of a handful of nobodies.

There are 7 billion people on the planet. I'm sure you can find a small group that would get offended by anything.

    Well said.

I had no intentions behind the "untouchable character" beyond it's basic interpretation. What am I missing?

Dude you want to pay NEBC legal bills? Changing the name is really not a big deal. Maybe they can have a contest to rename GB. My vote Sacred Cow IPA

Threats are not in the spirit of Gandhi either...If they change the name, I hope they call it: The Beer Formerly Known as Gandhi-Bot.

This is the part that kind of pisses me off. They hold Gandhi so sacred, yet they have no clue what he was even about. This kind of unconditional support for someone , just because the government mandates it, is what leads to messed up countries like North Korea where people worship lunatics because they cant question them and dont have any other choice.

I do hope that NEBCO keeps the name. I cant imagine that this would hurt their business at all, aside from lawsuit expenses if they fought it. All serious craft beer drinkers will keep drinking NEBCO. Anyone who doesnt know much about craft beer who is in the category of americans who were offended will forget about this in a month and wont ever make the connection between sea hag on tap at the bar and this.

How about 'hindu extremist' or 'shiv sena' for a new name... certainly in keeping with the media reaction.

Already taken. Arbor brewing in Michigan has made it for years and it's not that good.

After a little thought, I'd like to retract this... too much like the nutcases who are protesting. Afraid I don't have much in common with Ghandi.

What legal expenses - this lawsuit was filed in India. There's absolutely no legal action being taken against them right now in the good ol' U-S of A!

Perhaps. However, what would be wrong with a world where people do their best to not use language that hurt anyone?

that's not their customer base, the "part that is upset" were a small, very small percentage of Indians who thought NEBCO was in England.
