    Once again not my picture (because the camera is still stuck in its battery-less state at the moment, and I don't have a Scooby-Doo print beer mug, unfortunately... XD), but...

    ...right now I'm drinking my second beer from the Starr Hill variety pack I picked up, the Dark Starr Stout. The only other stout I've had prior to this was a Guinness on draft at a local restaurant over Thanksgiving break, but I've been wanting to try more of them and I figured one from the same category (Irish dry stouts) would probably be a logical first step.

    I'm actually liking this a whole lot. I don't drink coffee, but some coffee does smell good to me, and the smell of this beer reminds me of how coffee that smells good to me smells. And the taste of it is... pretty similar, actually. It's different from the Guinness I had, and I would say the flavor is probably a bit stronger too in addition to being different, but it is definitely in the same overall "roasty flavors, seems to be neither sweet or bitter" category. I figure those are probably something close to the defining features of a dry stout, just like "lots of hop flavor but not really bitter, with a bit of sweet malt flavor mixed in somewhere" seems to define pale ales based on the handful I've tried.

    This basically tastes like the way coffee smells (which is nice) rather than the way coffee actually tastes (which I didn't like so much the last time I tried... though to be fair that was only coffee-flavored ice cream rather than real coffee, heh.) I was a bit worried after seeing a couple mentions of a strong smoky flavor that some people found off-putting, but if there's any smokiness going on here it blends in very well with the "good coffee smell" flavor rather than standing out or being too strong.

    ...oh hey, the glass is empty now. That last half of the glass disappeared a lot quicker than I was expecting it to.
