That's such a "weird" beer encounter that it's actually funny!! I'm going to remember that tactic for my next bottle share, take 'em to the party but can't open 'em. I'm aging all my growlers from here on out.

 

This afternoon. Just bottled. Wegman's. West Allentown. Now go get u some!

I told myself that I would do this and I actually did it.. Super blind tasting among these IPA/DIPAs.

From left to right was my best of show. I may need to do this again as the local boys won out. They were among the freshest of the bunch (all four on the left actually). Was there familiarity that had me pick them? Two Hearted is pretty young too. but suffered. The far two on the right had this mildew like wet hop smell.

The first four were chosen away from the others largely because of their aromas.
1 Marble IPA 1/15/15 bottle date. Super clean citrus hoppy aroma. Killer stuff. I guessed this as Sculpin, as I had had it the night before.. Wrong
2 La Cumbre 1/8/15 bottle date. I guessed this as a DIPA. It seemed quite a bit heavier in mouthfeel but finished dry. My notes include "Hop Juice aroma". Super dank. I should've known
3 Victory Hop Ranch BBD 4/23/15. I've had this once before. Again a super clean aroma. No true guesses on what this was. Clean great DIPA (really seemed like a IPA)
4 Sierra Nevada Hop Hunter. bottle date 1/15/15. Aroma actually won out here against some others. Citrus and pine. Just a fresh hop smell. Taste had this biscuity like flavor (pilsner like). I spotted it right away. It became the only beer I guessed right. Flavors faded fast in the mouth but overall it held up just fine

5 Ballast Point Sculpin 343rd day of '14 bottling. I had this last night on a more 1 vs. 1 format and found it to me marvelous. So subtle and clean, and even more subtle. I don't know if this one is a good candidate against other hoppy beers.

6 Victory Dirt Wolf BBD 3/23-15. Stood out for its ABV a bit as it was sweeter but in no ways a true hop bomb in aroma or bitterness. Aroma was a downer.
7 Bell's Two Hearted Ale . Bottled on 1/6/15. I mentioned last night that this was tasting a bit unfresh with the hoppy aroma. The smell followed suit. The taste was another story though. A bit heavier in mouthfeel with some sweetness but it didnt carry over with a truly bad taste or bite

These events (although just two of us) are really fun to do. I may need to go again maybe more on a solo quest to see how they go by themselves. No true conclusions here.

 

I was going to stop for the night.. But then I saw Budweiser's "cry for help" of a commercial.. So I popped a Flying Dog Gonzo Porter. Cheers BA
