Today is sort of Valentines Day for my wife and I since she's on a business
trip 13th --> 19th. She took the day off today so she could accompany me
to a few beer events...Gotta love her! Right now I'm having a BCBS while we
get ready to go stand in line to buy tickets for a Pliny the Younger charity event
that takes place tomorrow evening. Yum!

Good morning BAs! Another from @BigRedDog from NBS BIF - a coffee stout. Definitely smells and tastes like coffee all right.

I use a camera and upload to my computer.

I use Imgur. Select "Upload Image". Select "Browse your computer". Select the photo file from your desktop. Select "Start upload". When the file is uploaded, the picture will appear and the link will be imgur.com/somefilename. DO NOT USE THIS LINK! If you do, you'll only get an icon in the email. Left click on the photo in imgur - the picture will expand and the link will now be i.imgur.com/somefilename. Now copy the link, select the photo icon in your response field, and paste the link. You should now have the photo in your response field.

Baird/Stone/Ishii Japanese Green Tea IPA for me today -- been in my fridge for a couple weeks and decided it was time to try it..

First beer in 8 whole freakin' days... how I missed thee!

Enjoy by 4/2, poured 2/12. $8 or $9 for a bomber at Whole Foods. Poured into a Sam Adams Perfect Pint.

Appearance: Orange gold color with a finger of creamy off-white head and a nice bit of lacing. Slight haze. Very good looking beer.

Smell: Not what I was really expecting -- quite, for the lack of a better word... vegetative? Has a Summit-like vegetables (especially onion) aroma, or, sorry for the comparison, like sushi. It's not super potent, but it's certainly the first thing I notice. Under that, I get some grapefruit and the green tea. I feel like the green tea with the hops and malt meld to give off that vegetable-like aroma. It smells pretty good, but not great... it's just hard to get past that vegetable-esque aroma.

Taste/feel: Again, the vegetable sort of flavor, at least on the front of the tongue. For the first few seconds I get that vibe, but then the green tea comes in on the back with some hop bitterness and a good amount of malt sweetness and it comes as a big relief to me. That strange flavor lasts throughout the sip, but it balances out a bit by the middle and end. As a whole, this is one of the sweeter IPAs I've had, and I feel like it may be cloying by the last bit of the bottle. The feel is quite good with a moderate hard prickling carbonation, and a middle-of-the-road semi-creamy mouth feel.

This is a very tasty beer, but I may have had my expectations too high expecting to be blown away for some reason. It looks great in the glass, but it smells a touch unusual, and as pleasant as the taste is, I feel like it could use a little more bitterness or something. For that reason, the overall rating is what it is.

Overall, definitely worth a look -- even if you don't especially like green tea, because while that flavor is certainly there, it isn't at the forefront, in my opinion... if that is the case though, split a bottle.

    Cheers, BA!

Really curious, how is that? Wondering how it tastes given how this year's was pretty hoppy and wouldn't think it would taste very good aged :stuck_out_tongue:

    edit:
Interesting thoughts. I read the tea flavours more as nutty and grassy tea, but I agree they really integrate well with the hops. The handful of reviews when I first tried this version were all over the place with goofy notes like 'fishy', so I just withheld any expectations and was subsequently very pleased.
