Liked this based on the videos...then saw the beer...very cool. I bought Led Zep 1 in 1970 at a garage sale for a quarter....never been the same since....

    Finishers:

Last bottle of my go-to IPA for now. I just got a super fresh pack of Torpedo last week, so I can dig into those this week. Haven't seen anything really fresh of the Centennial lately, but the freshness of Torpedo has been really improving lately which is great. The Centennial is still tasting fantastic otherwise.

My go-to amber ale. Always delicious. I keep finding myself buying so much Bells for regular drinkers lately. Mostly Porter and Amber with the occasional latest seasonal. I just grabbed the last of some Best Brown on clearance yesterday. I know that will be delicious.

Really nice and robust coffee stout. Not too much Belgian yeast character, but there is a bit noticeable. Big on coffee and dark bready/roasted character though. Really delicious.

Always awesome Black DIPA. Big citrus/piney hops and balanced deep roasted/charred malt flavors. Delicious as usual.

Hops and Grain: The One They Call Zoe
    [IMG]

This is the third beer I have tried from Hops and Grain. I dont know what it is but there is a funky taste in the mid pallet in all three I have tried. It's only in the first couple of sips and them i can ignore it. Weird I know but I asked a friend of mine if he tasted it too and on a return tasting of the porter for him he tasted it too. I have one more Hops and grain in the fridge, an alt. But i fully expect it to be in that beer as well. Like I said its not that big a deal but if you look for it its there. If you get past that or like it, they are pretty good beers.

The second can tastes even better than the first. If The Alchemist was canning this, this would get even higher ratings. Just my opinion.

Having the first of the new beers I picked up in a mixed six pack over in Salem the other day...

Slow Ride session IPA from New Belgium. Making a very good first impression even though it's a couple months away from its May 24th "best by" date. I think this is the first IPA I've tried where pine or herbal/leafy sorts of flavors weren't the dominant flavor. In this one the piney flavor is present, but it's more in the background, mingled in with something that's closer to tropical fruit type flavors (I almost want to say that there's a flavor in there that reminds me of mango? been a while since I've had a mango though, maybe that's not quite right, but that's the closest fruit to what I'm getting here. Kinda like a slightly underripe mango with a bit of piney flavor sprinkled in too.)

It seems that I see a lot of people mentioning that they don't like the "session" IPAs much, but if the good ones are similar to this (or even better!), I think it's safe to say that I have no complaints about the style. It is definitely a good bit lighter-bodied than the other IPAs I've had--it may be even lighter than the regular pale ales I've tried, I know the color certainly seems to be about a shade or two lighter than even the lightest-colored pale ale I've had--but for a lower-ABV beer that's intended to be a tasty, refreshing thing to drink more than one of in a sitting during the warmer months, I don't see that as being necessarily a bad thing. I'm certainly emptying this glass pretty quickly, and I can see myself drinking a second one if one was available... so it seems to me that they pulled the "session beer" thing off pretty well.

I think I'll be picking up more of this once the beer section of my fridge is a little less crowded.
