I find it strange that now there are two new members from different parts of the U.S. that have signed up to come to this thread.

I think I'm going to give it a go and split it with a buddy - my folks are up in Oxnard and going there to pick up my bottles will give me a reason to get out of their house for a few. I figure the $150 is about equivalent to a big night out and if the beers are great (or even good), I'll be stoked and will be glad I got in early - if they are disappointing, I'll still be able to clothe and feed my kids and will store the bottles with the half dozen or so Triple Bocks I am saving for an unwanted house guest. I think most people are taking offense that these guys have the "gall" to establish a society before they even have a brewery (or have even tried to brew their sours with a commercial system) and, I have to admit, it is a bit presumptious to assume that people are going to go for it solely on the basis of a few good homebrews/local accolades. But, I look at it like a kickstarter campaign with extra benefits and am happy to support them on their endeavor. I know it's not nearly the same thing, since they already had a proven track record (although it was still early on), but I didn't hesitate in becoming a Reserve Society member in '09, as I wanted to support a young brewery in OC and I never regreted that decision.

    Where's the beer?

That's all I want to know. All this nonsense aside.

How long until more than 20 people can sample something that wasn't made in a bathtub or Steve Jobs's garage?

So how's the beer? There's an event going on today, right?

What's the acceptable level of praise if someone were to like the beer? Just want to make sure I'm staying within all the rules.

    Question time:

I've been riding this thread the whole time. I understand that there are 10 bottles coming, however are these 10 bottles different or is it five bottles of exclusive beer at a 2 per person limit? Im curious if this is 10 different barrel sours.

My bad haha. 5 beers in a society for 300? Maybe I'll find some casa at a bottle share but when you value your company at the same value as rare barrel, sara, bruery among others you may want to bring a little more fire then 5 beers within one year. I hope they really hit it off but maybe next year around for the society, I mean toolbox is killing it without on and is seemingly doing it right. Maybe ride that business layout. Not gonna beat a dead horse here. Goodluck!

I'm not one to write fancy reviews but I could care less about plums but I thought their La Primera was great. I signed up and look forward to what they have to offer. For me, $300 for a membership is a lot easier than having to drive overnight and stand in line for hours without a guarantee that I'll even get something. Like I'll be doing this year for Beatification.
Can't wait for their tasting room since I'll already be making my monthly drives right by there in route to Barrelworks/Libertine Pub.

Was that the only one of their beers they had to try?

Ive got a pretty sour taste in my mouth...

I contacted Casa to see if there was a way to taste the product before singing up. They said come out to the event and "we will open you and your friend a bottle".

We drove through the LA traffic 1.5 hours there (and then back) to sample and make a decision.

I was poured a 1.5oz, maybe 2oz pour of the very bottom of a bottle.....

With such a small pour of the very bottom there was no chance on making any educated decision. I was actually shocked when said brewer happily poured the very bottom scuzz of the bottle as my taster...

The beer wasn't bad, the guys were very nice. I hope Casa's beer comes out great.. Me and my friend were prepared to sign up if the beer was great.. Props to the Casa guys for making the leap and trying to make this happen, I hope the beer turns out great.

I probably woulda been better off driving the 2 hour trip the other day to get 4oz of Duck Duck Gooze on tap at Lost Abbey..

    Ateammusic-

This is really disappointing to read. We corresponded a few times via email, and talked in person for about 15-20 min yesterday. While chatting about the beer you sampled and your recent beer travels to Crooked Stave, I wish you would have asked for more of our beer. I am sorry your experience wasn't positive and I recognize you drove a long way. Please private message me your address and I will mail you a gas gift card to make up for your trouble. You drove a long way to leave unhappy.
