Today's apparently "pale ale day" for me -- I'm trying my first can of this one right now:

Dale's Pale Ale from Oskar Blues Brewery. I've seen pictures of this brewery's cans with someplace in Colorado listed at the bottom rather than North Carolina -- so I'm guessing they must have breweries in both states? Kinda neat that it's so clearly marked which one each can came from. And it cracks me up a little that the canning date on the bottom also comes with a note saying "LOOK AT ME!"

Anyway, on to the beer itself -- this has got to be the darkest "pale" ale I've seen yet. It's orangey, but an even darker orangey color than Sierra Nevada's or the Fire Rock pale ale I had earlier today. Lots of foam on top (as you could see above)... I'm not as good at pouring from a can vs. a bottle so I may have overdone it a bit, though it was a lot easier to pour from a 12-ounce can compared to the huge 24/25-ounce ones I've had before (...I didn't have any spills/overflows like with that giant Foster's can a while back. XD)

Not all that impressed by the beer itself, though. It's not bad, but nothing amazing either -- having a bit of difficulty distinguishing individual flavors either in terms of the hops or malts, though there's definitely some leafy/very slightly piney flavor, some bitterness (a bit more than I'd expect from a "regular" pale ale, actually), and some sweetness in there.

I dunno... maybe the posts I saw a while back saying this one drops off after just a couple months were onto something, or maybe I'm just not really in the mood for beers in the more hoppy/bitter range lately after having so many of them in the past couple weeks (I had my last Double Gooch from the Devil's Backbone collaboration pack last night and noticed similar problems there, along with the bitterness being almost too much for me -- and that one was really good the first two times I had it, plus the bitterness never gave me trouble at all those times. So maybe it is just my taste buds not being in a "hoppy" mood.) Will have to come back to this one some other day and see if anything changes between the first can and the second.

There are some advantages to driving through Wisconsin whilst working. This magnificent DIPA is one. Love the malty sweetness that accompanies the hoppy dank flavors.
