We both had a good-hearted laugh at your week, don't hold it against us. Cheers, brother in midsection agony!

Oh, trust me, I winced at the memory of what you described. I was in a car accident a couple of years ago, and the effects of a seatbelt/airbag encounter at about 45-50 left me with dinged up ribs for months. I really hope it heals up quickly for you!

edit: Oh, BTW, you are seriously leaving everything out there on the ball field - you're obviously the kind of player that a coach would love.

Thanks! I intend too, I have been consuming so many colorful and thoughtful reviews for so long that I have felt guilty not contributing. I have a nice spreadsheet of beers that I have enjoyed but have not reviewed on BA so they will be "officially new" on Sundays, lol.

I kinda thought that, but glad someone else thought so, too. Missed this silly one on way in, but literally just snapped it on way back from lavatory:

Good afternoon, NBS crew! I've got a couple brews that I've worked through this afternoon, starting with this one earlier: Millersburg Brewing Company's French Ridge IPA.

Smells awesome; a boatload of hops. Looks good. Time for the taste test, and........

....it's a diacetyl bomb. It quickly becomes overwhelming, unfortunately, and after about 1/3 of the glass, the rest was bound for the drain.

I was just talking about this on another thread (something along the lines of "What do you want to be the next big trend?"). I responded that what I wanted to see was American brewers dialing in on their fundamentals and on the basic styles. Don't find the next crazy barrel for your stout; make sure your stout is good first!

This beer is a perfect example of what I was talking about. Before me, there were 30 ratings and 3 full reviews, and it scored fairly high (just a hair under 4.00). Sure, it's got potential, but I get the feeling that the brewers were thinking they've got these great hops to toss in, and it will make it a fantastic IPA...completely forgetting that you have to make a good beer (something about "all four phases on the game," perhaps, to steal a sports cliche), not just buy good hops.

    http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/32953/102983/?ba=Roguer
3.01 / -22.6% (rating is much higher than I'd prefer, based on a wonderful nose to the brew, and a fantastic mouthfeel)

    Cheers!

I'm hoping this next brew will redeem the state of Ohio: Brew Kettle All For One session IPA.

Lovely beer, with incredible head retention. Aroma is wonderfully complex, with tons of hop notes (pine, pepper, grassy herbs, and earth) competing with brown sugar and spicy rye notes.

(I had to look up the beer to see if it had rye; I didn't know it going in (nor did I know it was a session IPA), but after getting a few good whiffs, I was a little confused at the rye notes. Sure enough, it does. I must be getting pretty good at this reviewing beers thing if I can blindly pick up the rye malt in a session IPA. :sunglasses:)

Flavor is better than most session IPAs, with tons of hops of course, and a grainy, dry biscuity malt note that really loses out on the sugary promise of the aroma.

Mouthfeel is where this beer really loses out by not having an extra ~2% ABV. It's incredibly thin, bordering on watery, to the extent that the initial flavor loses it out (it washes right by the tongue, leaving almost no impression behind).

    http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/2470/165032/?ba=Roguer
    3.67 / -8.3%

    Dear brewers,

Stop making session IPAs! 6-7% is sessionable enough for an IPA. You lose way too much body and flavor by just hopping the crap out of seltzer water.

    Sincerely,

    A pirate.

Ain't much you can do with ribs. Aspirin/advil as needed, and try not to stretch-reach more than you have to. I've never broken one, but I'm pretty sure I've a few over the years (most recently, when a golf cart loaded with kegs and equipment went off a small bridge, and everything landed between my neck and waist. Ouch.), just take your time and be careful.

Amen!!! That term gained in popularity way too fast. And what is not "sessionable" about a 6-7% IPA. I'm not regressing to my days of killing 12'ers of BMC and hosting a belching contest. Shiiiiit, I haven't been 18 in decades!!!

Nice looking little fellow here with a smooth light brown solid as hell head. Dark as night this thing.

Nose full of chocolate, faint berries and sneaky vanilla.

Taste is immediately syrupy sweet with tons of chocolate that quietly slides to bitter on a wicked cloying sweet finish.

Jury is in recess over this one as it tastes great but it's pretty demanding in the sweetness.

    @Roguer
Gotta agree, the line IPA vs IIPA is so blurred that a ice 6-7% IPA is sessionable enough. And hey! what about making a solid APA??

To answer both our questions, it's likely marketing :slight_frown:.

Edit: ice should be nice. But given my old school Molson Ice days... An Ice IPA?!? (As my home brewer side laughs at me).

Greetings fellow NBSers! A sunny, breezy day here in the Fourth Corner. Did a few bits of work earlier, helping set up a fundraising brunch for a new community radio station here in Hamsterville, now have the rest of my day free. My friend Yeti (her real name is Lis, and she's very petite. I think it's funny to call her a huge, hairy, monster, when that actually describes me) had her birthday on Friday, and yesterday her husband, Beav, made a huge mess of various Mexican food and we had a B-day party. I marinated some chicken thighs in Spiedie sauce and cooked those beauties on the grill. There were plenty of brews, new and familiar, of course.

My first entry today comes to me by the gracious generosity of our own @utopiajane , a fantastic Wheat-Brett-ImpIPA: http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/651/139177/ . I've already added it to my wants, if anyone has access and wants to set up a trade. I've got another new one lined up, be back in a bit.

Even though IPAs, in general, aren't my first choice, I disagree with you. If I'm gonna wreck my palate by having 6-8 IPAs, why get all drunky-drunk? I drink a lot of fluids in general, and it's nice to not all wobbly after the first few, when you know you're still gonna have more.

Howdy NBSers and welcome new posters. Glad to see you've found THE most fun and informative thread on BA!
First I would like to join everyone in congratulating @utopiajane for her second anniversary. And also thank her for her wonderful efforts to keep this and all threads informative and interesting. Which leads me to my segue to my new beer for today. I saw this on the shelf beginning of the week at a new local shop with great selections. I knew right away this was my beer for NBS. Brooklyn, always flying under the radar and never just getting the credit they deserve for some reason.
Then low and behold the first beer out of the gates today was from Jane a Brooklyn! Now I was sure I had made the right choice so as we say To Beer!
    Brooklyn "K" is for KRIEK
Pours a muddy rusty reddish brown that is unfiltered. No sight of anything through the glass.1/2" tannish head falls to a very thin ring with little lacing. If there was anything to be desired in this beer it was the appearance but the rest I'm sure will surely make this insignificant.
Massive aroma of sour cherries, cherry blossom with candied orange/lemon zest. Beautiful bourbon and vanilla blend in perfectly with that champagne yeast and touch of Brett funk. Honestly I could smell this all day but I can't wait to get this on my tongue.
Sweet brown sugar starts this off then the wonderful cherry, bourbon and vanilla finishing with that orange zest refreshing the back of the throat. There is a tea- like flavor that strikes a note. I can't avoid the wine-like feel I'm getting from the champagne yeast. Like a fine sparkling wine with kirsch added and the barrel aged. This is truly a well balanced flavorful and remarkable beer!
Mouthfeel is prickly with tiny bubbles. Taste is full but body is surprisingly thin for a barrel aged brew. Alcohol is well hidden. I love the fact that the fruit shines through but you still get the beauty of the barrel.
Folks if you can get your hands on this don't pass it buy. And for all you BBA fans don't expect the norm. The beer strikes a perfect balance between a KRIEK lambic - fruity and sour sweetness with a vanilla and bourbon kick- a real reinvention of the style. You get all the fruit and depth without a heavy body and syrupy sweetness. And the Brett is perfect in this. Truly a work of beer artfrom BB and Garret. Great to see them getting some love today. Highly recommended at 20 bucks a bottle. A must try. I'm going to wipe out my store.
And now its also old new vinyl Sunday. Hopefully I'm not just entertaining myself with this but if so who the hell cares!
Gold Dust Woman from Fleetwood Mac. And yes they had 45s in 1977.
Hey have a fine week and as always thanks for listening![IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]
