This is exactly how I "like" on NBS. If it fits what we're looking for, then I like.

On WBAYDN, I'm a bit more discerning sometimes, tossing out a like for a beer I enjoy, music I love, beer I'm impressed by, photography work....pretty much anything that catches my eye.

It's because you changed your avatar. The Ahnold one was awesome; I wouldn't blame Dave for putting you on ignore after that!

My uncle had a 440 charger engine, bored, dropped into a flatbottom boat. Let's just say when there was "glass conditions" at Lake Havasu, 80 MPH feels like a Death beckoning on water.
PS You needed a real lite featherfoot on the gas if anybody wanted the slightest chance of success keeping their arms in their sockets when trying to water ski.

9%? For the Bruery, that's not an imperial anything; that's a damn session beer.

I know what you mean. I had a "57 chevy pickup (small rear window) and I sat on the firewall, inside the engine compartment, while working on the carburaetor.

My Dad had a guy work for him that would come over on Saturday mornings. He had a brand new 1968 Plymouth GTX. He left the keys in the ignition and knew that I would venture out in this beast. It was a beautiful car, bronze, full-throated, and a marvel. I remember stepping on the gas at 30 MPH and it grabbing the road and scaring me back home. The modern Dodges come close, but that was one Helluva car!

A New Beer Sunday post not from the RV. GOT just finished, time for a beer and a rating.

Tonight I'm having Epic Brewings' Imperial Red Ale, a bomber of which I picked up at the brewery in Salt Lake City last week:

Opaque brown/reddish pour into SAPP; beige foam; good lace and carbonation. 3.75

Caramel candy and baked yam nose; suggestion of earthy/pine hops too. 4.0

Semi-sweet malt/caramel candy start; brown sugar yam, then earthy bitter hop finish. Nice balance between sugar and piney hop. 4.25

Medium lite mouthfeel with an earthy hop dankness for the tongue coating. Nice. 4.00

Overall, crisp with a sticky pine resin finish. Semi sweet malt foundation makes me want another...4.0

    Cheers!

Enjoying a new beer thanks to @JayWhitson. This is a fine scotch ale. Let's break it down...
Aroma is a sweet caramel/toffee with a bit of coffee and a note of cocoa
Taste is pretty much the same with carbonation to give it a light and refreshing feel

Hell, it's tough being busy, and it is important to not worry about too much. If I read everything around here I just might be crazier than I am. Some of my posts are noticed and others are bound for the ether. I find meaning here every day!

Well, be in Bellingham by 8:30 next Sunday morning, and I'll put ya to work. If that beer lasts, I'll see if I can get you a mini-growler.

Weird. for a moment I had duplicate posts, so I deleted one and both went away.

    Or maybe I've been drinking...

Anyway, my last NBS beer is one I'd been anticipating ever since I first heard it was going to be released: a barrel-aged version of Selkirk Abbey's Guilt, an imperial coffee porter:

    http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/28798/176682/?ba=woemad

Not at all what I was expecting, even after discovering it was aged in wine barrels rather than the ever popular bourbon ones. The winey barrel flavors really dominate the porter to the point where it's a little hard to tell it is a porter. It's kinda weak bodied, too. Oh, and there's no coffee, not even the roasted malt, coffeeish bitterness that is normal for a porter. A re-look at the label, and lo and behold, there's nothing about coffee anywhere.

Maybe if this is sat on for a year or so, the wine barrel aging might recede to the point where the porter can come out and play, but I'm really not all that wild about it right now. The first time I feel underwhelmed by Selkirk Abbey - that makes me sad.

Can you guys believe I'm having a 2nd new beer on a Sunday??!?!? This is madness...or Sparta....Anyways I went with KBS and I am blown away but here's my quick objective review

Aroma is a mixture of coffee, chocolate, vanilla, caramel, slight bourbon from the barrel aging
Taste is a masterful blend of all the above. Nothing is trying to dominate the others and it is flavor harmony. All parts working for the whole. I see why this beer is highly acclaimed and I am just happy I have 4 more bottles and could technically get some more which I very well might do....

On a sidenote, I chose this beer because I have a job interview tomorrow and wanted a good luck beer. If my interview goes like how this beer tastes, then I have all the confidence in the world I'll get it. I'm done with my almost 4 years of security and ready to start personal training finally!!!

Heavy participation today, good to see!! Welcome to the new comers, good to see the old faces all that

My sister just got her PhD, so I've been down Californi-way celebrating with her. Congrats to Dr. Durf!! We spent most of the weekend eating, drinking, and playing board games. Felt pretty good about the outcomes, too! Won King of New York and cleaned up on Galaxy Trucker, and middle of the pack for Acquire but got pretty well worked at Bang! and the Game of Thrones game I (damn boxed in Starks!)
We've had a bunch of good beer this weekend, many of which are new to me. Today's new beers though are the Spice Wars edition of Fremont's KDS, and Tarte Noir from Eagle Rock.
(this ship was turrrible at the onset, but I still kicked ass this round as everyone else got pretty wiped out by meteors!)
Spice Wars was fantastic. Smoothe and sweet on the initial sniffs, definitely get some of the baking spices I was expecting, but in a more nuanced fashion than many of the other examples of spices stouts I've had (first two that come to mind being First Nail and Xocoveza). There's a place for those bold ones too, but the blending and subtlety to SW really nails the spot for me. Flavour is much the same with the foundation of an excellent smoothe oatmeal stout, with the traditional barrel notes of wood and vanilla and bourbon without a huge alcohol wallop, and the added complexity of mulled spices. Description lists the spices, though I didn't really pick out one from another, they tasted more comfortably blended. The alcohol is incredibly well hidden, and this ranks as one of the best beers I think I've had in quite some time.

Tarte Noir was also good, though not nearly on the same level of Spice Wars for my money. Nose and palate both start off with that balance of dark fruits and vinegar sour, without being overwhelmingly so. Mild roast on the flavour, but it did have a slightly disappointing... flat affect peeking through the middle somewhere. Not like carbonation flat, but like there was a couple of lines of the poem redacted in the middle of the reading. Still enjoyable overall though. Grabbed a bottle to take home.

In addition to the Doctoring of Durf, I got to meet one of my best friends' three month old baby for the first time. Like a bugs ear.

Anyway, cheers all, sorry for the late night checkin, figured it would be rude to start writing before everyone else checked out to go to bed.

    When in LA...

    Cheers!
