What kind of food do you like? Ambiance? Price range? Any areas in particular you want to focus on? While there's lots of good food of all sorts around town, due to geography and susequently subpopulations, there's especially a vast array of great food from various asian countries/traditions.

Just be sure to hit Dick's. It is, after all, where the swass hang out...

We love food as much as beer - pretty much up for anything, but don't want to pay total swank $$$ for it. Huge on fish and sushi - Thai - Italian - etc.... does not matter as long as it's good. Likely staying downtown - the Panama or Hotel Seattle. I've checked out yelp & other sites, but I trust beer snobs more. We like dives too - doesn't matter as long as the food is good.

That's nearing the end of our trip and we'd like to stay downtown - neat area close to good amenities - and on the cheap. Both those hotels have some cons to 'em - can you rec anything better?

It's expensive but they have some great seafood and the view of downtown Seattle can't be beat.

Salty's on Alki. From downtown, catch the water taxi over to West Seattle, walk 1/4 mile down the beach to the north and you can't miss it. Get reservations and asked for a window booth or this time of year, sit outside on the deck. The place stares right at downtown from across Elliott Bay.

Also, Marination, just as you exit the water taxi is outstanding. Walk up basket food but it's freaking awesome and they also have an amazing patio out back. Oh, and a decent local tap list.

Either place is a great dinner trip. Walk to the water, jump on the water taxi, eat, drink and catch a water taxi back. Few places in the world you can do that.

Also, catch the Bainbridge ferry out of downtown and walk through Winslow. Make your way down to the Public House overlooking the marina and sound. You can walk onto the ferry and walk to and from the Public House.

It's a cool little pub with great food and good beer. Like Salty's and Marination, it's the exerience of getting there and back that makes it really cool. You get a beautiful ferry ride, great scenery, great food and beer. My wife and I do this about once a month.

The Brooklyn Seafood, Steak, and Oyster House is my favorite restaurant...of any. They do flights pairings of beer, whiskey, wine, and vodka with oysters as well. Alder planked salmon there pretty much ruined salmon for me anywhere else. 2nd and university downtown.

I would strongly encourage you to hit Wild Ginger downtown for Asian/Thai fusion. They usually have a small but more than decent taplist. Also, if you like fish and chips, go to Fremont Brewing for beer and order by phone fish and chips to go from around at the Pacific Inn. Fremont will likely have their menu out somewhere.

Collins Pub is also downtown and has great food and a great taplist.

Quinn's Pub is just up from downtown --- you can walk there from downtown but it's uphill the whole way. Hit them for happy hour 3-5 pm weekdays and order from the appetizer menu.

    Thai:
    • Jai Thai in Fremont (short walk to Fremont Brewing, where you will be going)
    Sushi:
    • Toyoda Sushi in Lake City (a Seattle neighborhood, northeast of downtown) has good, fresh fish; kind of divey, family-run joint and right next door to Elliott Bay Brewing (average beer)
    • Shiro's in Belltown (just north of downtown) is also very good, but pricier.
    Regular old seafood:
    • Ray's Boathouse/Cafe near Shilshole Bay (west of Ballard) has a great view of the water/mountains, good seafood (menu's a little tired for locals, but probably better for tourists) and some decent beers on tap.
    All-around great dining experience:
    • Staple & Fancy, Ballard. Pricey but worth it.
    Enjoy your visit!

I second toulouse petit. As a bonus, they're open late and the late night happy hour menu is even better than the dinner menu. Skip Dick's, unless you like your burgers vanilla. Li'l Woody's in Capitol Hill has my favorite burgers. Revel in Fremont is amazing Korean fusion and happens to be next door to Brouwer's Cafe, one of the best beer bars in the city. Both less than a mile from Fremont Brewing, which you must visit.

I don't know if any of them qualify as 'must eats,' but some places I've enjoyed depending on what you're in the mood for:
    Burgers: Uneeda/Rain City/Kate's Pub
    Breakfast: Lola/Portage Bay/Morsel
Sandwiches: Paseo (haven't been since the reopening though)/Take 5/Fat Ducks
    Mexican: La Carta Oaxaca/Rancho Bravo
    Pam's (for caribbean)
    Taste of India
    Pestle Rock
Burgundian (especially the chicken and waffle, but I've not had a bad thing here plus an excellent taplist)

Yeah, the Dick's was more tongue in cheek than anything, though as far as fast food goes, they're pretty much the only place I'll stop

Anyone mentioned The Masonry yet? Good wood fired pizza and a fine taplist. I'm a fan.

Based on what I've seen in this thread, and what i know yelp says, I'd go with Yelp personally. If you're around on a Sunday, that would be a good day to head to Ballard - the farmers market is the best in the city (differing opinions would be wrong), and you could grab brunch at any number of places (I'd go for Porkchop & Co., Bastille or the Sexton personally) before hitting the mean streets and stopping at Reuben's/Stoup/Etc

People still use and trust Yelp? Nobody I know takes it even remotely seriously. Between users either hyping a place up, or grinding an axe, and Yelps business practices, they seem to have fallen off the radar. One local place up here has even gotten actors from a local theater to read the bad Yelp reviews, and post them on youtube. Funny shit!

There might be a little nonsense, but with thousands and thousands of reviews, the aggregate cuts through that pretty quickly in a place as large as Seattle or Portland. It's just one of many resources (seattle eater is good) that I would trust more than a beer website, personally.

Can't go wrong with the eater 38 list, it's treated me right in all my travels. The heat map is also a good resource for newer restaurants.

If you're looking for the opinion of the general public I've found four square much better than yelp.
