The best thing about this one is that you can get it anywhere in the St. Louis area. I can pick up a 6 pack at my grocery store.

It's not the breweries taking advantage, it's us. From the brewery's point of view, more demand is good, because you can raise the price, and increase volume (if capable). There's so many great beers around these days, and that's a good thing, but when people are showing up at releases with hand trucks, and following delivery vehicles around, that's nobody's fault but ours. Hype is short for hyperbole, everybody gets excited about the next new shiny thing, and we create it.

I agree with this. I was visiting Princeton a few weeks ago and was hoping to score some 077X or Kane's IPAs but the place I visited only had Boat on tap. I got a growler fill and boy was I pleasantly surprised. It is a damn good beer.

I would also like to put my vote in for Elysian's Night Owl. One of my favorite beers in general. Doesn't get great ratings but probably because there's a lot of hate on pumpkin beers for some reason.

One of the best BBA coffee stouts I've had and it just sits on the shelf because its not KBS (which I don't understand why is as hyped up as it is, but hey, more for them hoarders )

I could easily echo the sentiments about Kane and Carton, but I'll reach a littler further...River Horse Oatmeal Milk Stout. It has a respectable rating on this site (88), but I really think that it suffers because the rest of the brewery's offerings are so incredibly mediocre. It really is a diamond in the rough.

No beer I like that doesn't have hype should have hype. Hype is useless.

I think the entire smokestack series deserves hype. I've never had a beer from it that I didn't really like.

Surly Hell, an excellent Helles lager.

Three Floyds Yum Yum. In the same league as Zombie Dust. For real.

Finch's Hardcore Chimera, a phenomenal DIPA.

I could post more, but I need to yank a Pinedrops from the cooler before I dehydrate.

Ska Modus Hoperandi. A truly excellent IPA and one of my favorites yet I rarely see it mentioned.

There as a pretty big hype a few years ago about Black Xantus - and it wouldn't stay on shelves. It would go as soon as it came in. Same with Alesmith Speedway, Brooklyn Black Ops, Imperial StoutTrooper, Even New Holland Dragon's Milk.
I think that the hype train passed these guys by. Also with Black Xantus, it's pretty high priced, even by BBA Coffee Stout standards. I do have a few bottles down in my cellar waiting for a good time to open them.
