Green Flash, huh? Let me look at my ratings...

    Rayon Vert - 4.09
    West Coast IPA - 3.45
    Barleywine - 4
    Green Bullet - 4
    Hop Odyssey - 3
    Imperial IPA - 2.26
    Summer Saison - 3.12
    Le Freak - 3.93
    Double Stout - 4.06

So, am I under-rating or over-rating their beer?

I would actualyl support you on that one. However HF and RR are two of the best in the country. Perhaps you just dont care for belgins, sours, and IPA's.

I don't think of Green Flash as "overrated" because I figure them to be good, not great, and I don't think they're less than good. I've enjoyed all the beers I've had from them, but they don't have anything I return to - except Palate Wrecker  I'm not usually aware of their special releases, but I had their Cellar 3 Silva Stout and loved it. I know that was not everyone's experience - see this thread or this thread for a taste of their unhappiness  lol

I couldn't name a brewery that I consider over-rated - but maybe I just take a very level approach to them?

Stone - to me - decent beers, but none have wowed me in the least. N I've tried many.

Rare Barrel and Societe I agree with for sure, but I can't name a brewery doing better Saisons in the country (maybe the world) than HF and SARA. I think RR is rated where they should be.

I'll second Maine Brewing Company for being slightly overrated, but I really love Red Wheelbarrow & Weez. All of their beers are great, but I feel like they just do too many ipa's that, in the end, taste similar.

What are the breweries (being a fellow Floridian, I travel around the state to different breweries, and would like to know which ones you speak of).

Every single highly touted brewery. People obsess over hot brands and whalez bro and miss out on lots of great breweries that aren't hyped to hell. Just because a brewery makes no highly touted whalez doesn't mean it's not putting out fantastic beer.

I've had some pretty terrible/mediocre stuff from Ballast Point, but I also live on the east coast. I'll also have to go out on a limb and say The Alchemist. HT just isn't my bag.

Problem is that none of these breweries set out to create hype after themselves. They are in the business of making the best beer they know how to make while creating profits. It's the consumer market that creates the hype and puts pressure on the breweries to live up to the, sometimes unrealistic, expectations. Breweries are what they are, take it or leave it.

Love when sex and beer are in the same sentence. :-)

Really isn't over-hyped not overrated? Its just beer drink what you like, like what you drink.

Ok I'll say it. 3 Floyds. I would put White Rajah (The Brew Kettle) against Zombie Dust anytime. I get their overpriced bombers and am constantly underwhelmed.

    Bullshit.
It's called marketing. If you haven't been in craft beer sales or on the beer buying side I doubt you've noticed a huge influence. But the breweries who create "hype" are very much doing intentionally by having reps in the market doing grass roots. Very few times a beer gets hyped without the hype men.
