I will be visiting Asheville, NC for the first time coming up this September. Anyone have any suggestions of breweries to hit up? Beers to seek out? The best beer stores? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Cheers!

Just left Asheville after an awesome beer weekend.

Breweries: Fortunately most of the breweries are located in the same neighborhood makes crawling around easy.
Wicked Weed and Funkatorium - take the Funkatorium tour. Definitely worth it, they give a great tasting and the tour guide Jesse is awesome
    Burial Beer
    Hi-Wire Brewing
    Green Man
    Sierra Nevada -
adjacent to the airport and definitely a MUST. Book the tour early.

Tasty Beverage is a great beer shop with taps in store as well.
Bruisin' Ales has a great selection right in downtown.

    HAVE FUN!!!

Walk out of your hotel and make a left. The next day, make a right.

Lots of people have had lots of suggestions and they are all archived and searchable. Just type in 'Asheville'.
C'mon OP. You want us to drink it for you too?

I went for the first time recently and my favorite stops were the Funkatorium, Wicked Weed original location, Burial and Sierra Nevada. The only beer shop I went to was Appalachian vintner and was impressed with their selection.

    Tips
If you want Wicked Weed bottles to take home get them at the funkatorium. They have stuff you wont be able to find else where.

If you want to take the Sierra Nevada tour sign up now online. It fills up fast.

Haywood Park Hotel-Really enjoyed my stay here. Right in the middle of things. Large rooms, garage parking and within walking distance of multiple breweries/restaurants. You also get breakfast vouchers each day for the café next door in the mall area. While my girlfriend would get ready I would go down and get all sorts of breakfast food and drinks to bring back to the room. It is basically all you can eat/drink as long as it is all on the same transaction.

Tupelo Honey Café- Had a great meal here on the front patio. Southern comfort food slightly elevated.

Longtime lurker, infrequent poster and first time visitor to Asheville for five days back in June. I'd echo everything above and add Wedge and Pisgah for breweries and Appalachian Vintners for bottle shop. Can't recommend Burial enough. If that's not considered requisite along with Wicked Weed, I'd consider it criminally negligent. And wishing I had some Bolo Coconut Brown in cans now ...

It's called the search bar OP. Utilize it and you'll get better answers than starting a "what to do in Asheville" post for the 100th time. Since I'm writing already go to Wicked Weed! You won't be disappointed.

The Haywood Park Hotel is fantastic. My wife and I just spent 4 days there and I would go back in a heartbeat. It is in the throb of the carnival that is Asheville! It is worth the money.

Oh hey whats up Savant. Didnt know you were so cool. As I am new to beer advocate, I thought I would ask a simple question. You obviously took the time to not only read said question, but you chose to respond. It seems as though you are someone who needs recognition, so I will give it to you. Thanks for being the most helpful cool bro on what is apparently just another website for people to bash other people on. Cheers.

So if this has been posted so many times, why even respond to it? I am new to this site. I am not even familiar with what an OP is??? Operator? Also, when I searched Asheville, so many random things came up, as well as postings from 5 years ago. I was thinking of bringing some great Michigan beers down to trade (founders devil dancer, bells oracle, dark horse double crooked tree) but it looks like I would probably post the wrong question in the wrong forum, so I probably shouldnt even try.

    Here is it really simply:

    Best Breweries to visit:
    Wicked Weed (both locations)
    Burial
    Green Man
-there are many others to fill in with but I would say those are can't miss

Sierra Nevada tour I heard is amazing

    Best shop: App Vintner

    Best Food:
    Curate
    Bull and the Beggar
    Admiral

    Best Bar for Beer:
    Thirsty Monk

If you have kids with you:
Highland on Friday or Saturday in the Meadow

Don't feel the need to stay downtown unless you definitely want to walk. Cabs and Uber are very easy in town and you can find much better deals with rentals and AirBnB close to town.

Just search around and you'll see the same places suggested each time. And for good reason.

Also- keep the bells founders and dark horse at home. They can be found in Asheville relatively easy.

Be sure to wear some comfortable shoes. Walking everywhere is half the fun and parking in Asheville sucks!

Barleys is a good option for "bar" food and a good taplist. Plus, it's an Asheville staple. I love Bruisin Ales and App Vinter, but I went to Tasty this past weekend would highly recommend that as well. Everyone else mentioned the beer options, but you need to check out Vortex Doughnuts and Biscuit Head for breakfast. I second Tupelo Honey. Expect crowds...
