Am I the only one that thought Sunday Morning Stout was a mess?

 

Sunday Morning Stout was great when it first came out but I felt that it morphed into a mess a few months after.

 

I thought it was a mess for sure...but loved every boozy drop. Sort of like when you know a movie is bad, but enjoy it anyway. A guilty pleasure.

 

You mean like Kung Fury?

I am guessing some of the breweries around town (that aren't represented) just don't have enough reviews.

Cool to see Cowbell so far up the list. Hell of a beer

 

I did not like SMS at all. Which is surprising because I think Weyerbacher does dark styles very well. A miss for me.

I need to try Sunny Side Up some time. Is this brewed year round?

 

SMS was 1000x better than its base beer Tiny. I haven't had a Belgian stout I've ever liked though.

 

Was that for real the base?? If so, I agree.

 

Wait, Tiny's the base beer? That's nuts! If that's the case, I totally agree.

EDIT: On further reflection, I'm going to say that's probably not correct. Where did you hear this?

 

Is this beer still being brewed and released? I had it when it first came out a couple years ago and really enjoyed it, along with a number of other Almanac beers in their Farmers Reserve series. Its a bit disappointing to hear of the fall off, but would like clarification if this is still that original batch or they continued to brew it. If its the latter that is really disappointing, if its the former still not good, but that beer has to be 3 years old or so. I opened one up at one of the VooDoo releases in Meadville.

 

Yeah there is no way that Tiny is the base for SMS.

Maybe all hearsay but I taste it in there for sure.

 

And I'm shocked to see Selins Grove get such high ratings. I've driven by there a bunch of times but they always seem to be closed when I'm passing through.

 

Selin's Grove is great. My favorite brewpub, for sure.

 

i had it a few weeks ago and it was definitely weird. i was pretty blown out when i drank it though and don't remember if i liked it or not.

SMS was hot when it came out and is turbo-tasty now, at least for me.

Found the PGH thread...

 

So per former Weyerbacher rep Chris Dayton, SMS's base is Tiny with an American yeast strain instead of a Belgian.

 

Wanted to make it there when I went out to Philly but didn't have time. Next trip, I hope.
