What beer are you drinking now? #1091

Getting ready to drive up to Boston to watch our son race at the Head of the Charles Regatta this weekend. It's supposed to be quite cold so I brought this sipper up from the cellar. Wow, is it potent! I have the cooler packed with IPA's to share with my brother-in-law, who is a hophead of the first order. I'm hoping that Sierra Nevada is providing the beer at the hospitality tent again this year. It should be a great weekend. Cheers everyone!

 

Ithaca's Box of Hops is out.
They did away with the Dark Vine and Double Zilla this year and replaced those with Java Power (gimme coffee! combined w/ FP) and Pacific Gravity (citrusy IIPA).
PG is no GF Sculpin, but it is certainly no slouch either at 9%. Good job Ithaca!

 

Post of the night as far as I'm concerned. 3 simple words have resulted in 10 minutes of laughter. Well done my friend.

Nonic Pint pour.

Appearance : Jet black motor oil coming straight out of the bottle, creating a delicious pool of obsidian goodness. The head is tan/almond colored, stands up a towering four fingers, and recedes slowly to 1 finger leaving sparse broken webs of lace on the glass.

Smell : Burnt to a crisp malt backbone, with chocolate and coffee surrounding it. Several short sniffs yield both plum sweetness and bubblegum aromas. It appears there's a hint of Belgian inspiration to this one. The aroma is medium to strong and as the head disappears further the sweetness actually wins out over all the other aromas.

Taste : Some off-flavors going on here, namely tin and bad yeast strains; but beyond that it's tobacco out front, with coffee ground, cocoa plant, some hop, and a light earthiness. Perhaps a hint of peanut hull on the finish. Not very impressive, unfortunately.

Feel : Pretty small for such a large bottle. Medium bodied, a bit of stickiness, and what little carbonation there is doesn't help it along much. It ends text-book semi-dry.

Overall : Ridge Run is a pass for me. I don't get it in my area but if I did, I wouldn't feel bad if I never had it again. There's quite a bit of off-flavors and overall it just doesn't come together for me. Try it if you want, I only paid $6 for my 22 oz bottle, but it really DOES taste like a $6 beer...and not a penny more.

 

House is clean. Had some pizza. Put on The Punisher on NetFlix. Now time to try the TenFIDY I just bought.

 

Kane Head High tasting great as usual. Can't wait to get some of those cans...hopefully that whole soapy/mettalic taste issue from the first canning run gets sorted out for the next run.

 

Wicked thunderstorm tonight in the high desert, so I'm just staying in and watching baseball. I picked up another sixer of this and I've officially set the record (mine) for quantity of Enjoy By purchased for a specific date, cheers!

 

Tried something local. Good day overall as a nice box of brews not distributed here arrived via FedEx from my brother-in-law in Colorado. Some good stuff from Lost Abbey & The Bruery and some mostly obscure Colorado beers (barely rated on here) to check out. Also grabbed floor tix for The Cure in Chicago next summer. Hoping to hit 3 Floyd's on that trip or a Binny's at least!
