So my next up is one that I meant to drink last week but had already met my self imposed "Gotta be up at 4:45" beer limit by the time TWD came on. Didn't want the same gate to befall tonight's episode, as I believe that my failure led to "the horn".

    Without further adieu,

Bold darkness with ruby red hues dominate the appearance as this beer lie below a thick and bold beige head which offers stubborn and blanket like lacing.

Nose lacks orange but punches tropical hops followed by a sweet malt.

Taste conflicts as all at once I have sweet malt, tropical hops and bitter orange peel, and saccharin sweetness on exit.

Body is massively carbonated that leaves behind a good measure of bitter.

This beer is structured very well but has a bit of a lackluster crescendo. Regardless, I think it still deserves a try.

Damn, it's been a few weeks since I've had the want (or chance) to contribute to this thread.
I've been logging 12-14 hour days for a few weeks straight putting the finishing touches on these beauties
    Chicago store:
    Denver store:
And anyone who does this line of work, the last thing you want to do is type a long, detailed description of the new beer in your glass.
But I'm finally home, even though I'm on-call this weekend, and can enjoy some beers.
On my trip to Chicago I met up with @Hopgoddess312 at a Binny's and she took me around the shop with a basket and insisted I try this that and the other. Not a single beer that she recommended has been anything less than stellar.
    This is no exception.
As soon as I cracked the cap and the hisss came out, the nose of this beer hit me and it was a no-brainer on what style this was .
Pours a nice mildly dark golden hue with a thumb of dirty white head.
While my experience of the style is somewhat limited, I thought Sierra's version of the style was great and this is on-par with that. If I closed my eyes and sipped, it wouldn't take me to Germany, but Portugal or Spain perhaps.
Great finish that has all the notes that you look for in the style.

What's happening NBS? A pretty nasty cold front here on the island. Really brisk and down right cold. Fall is in full effect with all the leaves turning color. Haven't done much of anything except watch football. A decent victory for the Jets and of course I'm pretty pumped up for the Mets in game 2. A bit of a late start thanks to getting into it a bit heavy yesterday.

My new beer today is Wick for Brains, a pumpkin ale, from Nebraska Brewing co. I was mostly drawn to it by the can art so we'll see how it goes.

A light orange pour with decent clarity. The nose speaks mostly of spices. I get nutmeg and cinnamon. A clean start on the drinking with the heavy spice carrying over from the nose. A malty and sweet finish with definite pumpkin flavor coming on. The mouth feel is pretty light and even a bit watery at times. It really strikes me as a base ale with pumpkin spices added.

Overall, a pretty average pumpkin ale at best. I'm in the low 3 range all around and it's 81 ba score seems to pretty accurately reflect the quality of the beer.

    New Am. IPA Sunday

    Greetings NBSer's,
A late arrival for me. Time in WI. Did pick up and sampled a few new beers. May submit one to NBS later today.
For now a classic Am. IPA from another neighboring state - this one to the south. And I mean a classic in presentation - aroma and taste. Good solid IPA
For the photo this shows how far into autumn we are - no leaves, and low sun. Two photos - one with the sun through the beer - an angle I've shamelessly stolen. And a more traditional shot.

Good evening NBS, thanks to @cavedave for the kick off and focus today, We are
back from visiting our youngest son who is 22 as of today. A visit to
New Haven included wild squalls and a fine biting breeze.
Today's offering is Courage and a true delight, the 2012 is in full stride and quite exquisite.
I am going to check in with Pattinson to see its history, storied I'm sure.
    Cheers all

    Courage Imperial Russian Stout

    Wells & Young's Ltd
Russian Imperial Stout / 10.00% ABV

    4.36/5 rDev +3.3% | Avg: 4.22
    look: 4 | smell: 4.25 | taste: 4.5 | feel: 4.5 | overall: 4.25

Poured from an 11.2 oz bottle dated 2012 vintage, into the rusty modified tulip glass.
A - A gentle pour yields a black hole opening up in my kitchen. Carbonation struggles through the viscous
matter, a mocha cap stay, thins with time.
S - Black strap molasses, pine boards, coffee, and bakers chocolate start things off. An increase in temp releases
dark berries, cigar outer wrap tobacco, and interestingly a wonderful sweet fig marmalade.
T - Remarkable, date, fig, cocoa, toffee. Alcohol hidden well, adds a mint component as it clears out.
F - Full in body, a bit slippery, the palate fully coated and bathed in a flavorful bonanza. The finish is
long and elegant, an incredible feel.
O - The offering is exquisite, on every front. The nose, palate, body all delightful and quite
rich, developed for royalty , that is certainly how I feel after enjoying this.
    Cheers

wonderful offering by Brickstone Chicago suburbs
they say double apa, I say I could drink as an apa.
pours clean orange with minor head reduced to active yeast look

banana bread mix, juicy sweet malt presence.
    clean taste reflects the look
not at all bitter, slight sweetness reminds me of finestkind really,
and that is saying a lot about a small town local brewery.
very drinkable and at 7 3/4 abv. would be dangerous on those days
where they just go down smooth, we've all been there!

New Beer Sunday...the Marines...Deuce Red IPA and an out-of-focus photo.

My new wife's oldest grandson just completed boot camp at Parris Island and endured the 54 hour "Crucible" finale unharmed, pushed through a 10 day bout of pneumonia in the early weeks of training with one day of recovery time then back at it, also had all his wisdom teeth removed during training with 4 hour recovery time, then back at it. He's had to leap over extra hurtles and is stronger for the experience.

My wife and family all attended his graduation.

I "took one" for the platoon, and stayed home with our old boy Olee who needs constant supervision or he'll have a WILD animal party at the compound. I'm talking real biblical stuff here, doggie treat overdoses, smoking, drinking, getting on the furniture, playing music WAAAY too loud, ****, cats and dogs living together etc etc.

Back to the graduation ceremony. I received good detailed text reports from the trip, but blurry fuckin' photos in the Age of Everyone-Has-A-Fuckin'-SuperMegapixel camera in their hand. wtf?

This is the graduate marching in formation Friday morning at the 9AM graduation.
She swears he's the one right in the middle.

Anyway, we DO have great shots of my wife, daughter and graduate together for framing.
For security reasons, posting military pics (in focus) online is not recommended.

I saw him yesterday for the first time in three months, and he definitely has
    gone through...a transformation. Impressive.
    Infantry training is next...

However! I can show you my NBS pic!

    Rhinegeist Deuce!

Anniversary Imperial Red IPA from, YES, Rhinegeist Brewing in Cincy! I have great affection for this little local brewery, and as they enter their "terrible twos" this beer is terribly GOOD! Labeled as a DIPA, but at 7.5% ABV, I don't really think so, but hey, it's their beer, it's a free country, they can call it whatever they want!

    I'll call it Delicious!

I'm wondering if that tasty IPA called TRUTH is involved with the crisp fruity notes of mango, fresh pine and just the right creamy malt mouthfeel that makes Deuce disappear alarmingly QUICK!

    You shoulda bought TWO idiot!!!

    Oh, here's the party animal:

Well well. I am so grateful to be back with all my NBS family! Been away two weeks- the longest since I started posting.
Thank you Dave for another poetic start.
Things have been quite hectic around here. It's been a tough week with things the well pump dying and no running water for two days. Then yesterday chimney cleaning and wood stacking. Then today work and stacking the last cord and a half.
So I feel this is a well deserved brew. I'll be in Manhattan (tribecca) next Sat-monday. Going to see Giants -Dallas Sunday.
A yearly trip we want to continue in honor of the passing of my youngest brother who always made it a point of not missing this. Should be a great time and I need some relief so I am so ready. Open to suggestions from any of you NYers....
Anyway the reason we gather here....BEER! And I have a beauty today

Jacks Abby Sour Barrel Project Cranberry Sour

Pours a beautiful rose tinged gold. Head is tall and marshmallow like that quickly settles to a paper thin ring as expected
    little to no lacing.

Huge aroma: citric, wildflowers, hay, oak, red wine, Cranberry, Macintosh apple, fresh ground white pepper. Just a super aroma. I could smell this beer for days.

Taste follows aroma with a wine like presence, touch o Cranberry but not by any means overpowering. Very earthy, musty crisp appley, just right for me with its sourness even with the added Cranberry juice. Barnyard, tart, citrusy. Layers of complex flavor that lingers on for minutes.

Medium/thin body. Nice cider like carbonation. Elegant in the way it fills your mouth with flavor yet finishes crisp dry and tart.

Just a fabulous well balanced sour beer. The Cranberry is perfect to smooth out the tart/sour profile. I believe this was aged in Cabernet barrels. This beer will be at my Thanksgiving table in lieu of Cranberry sauce- I can see this going so perfectly with turkey and all the fixings. Another out of the box winner from JA. I really don't think there is a beer I don't like from them. The Berliner Weisse was nice. But this true BA sour is just a sure winner. I'll be going back to grab a bunch of this limited release!!!
And for NOVS I'm going funky with a great vocalist and album. With fantastic studio musicians this was just a well produced polished album in its day. Track: You got some Imagination

May be back .....but as always have a great week and Thanks for Listening![IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

Although I typically swear off pumpkin beers, this one is touted as very superior.

    Schafly Pumpkin Ale

Looks fairly normal for the genre as we have a murky reddish, orangeish beverage with a pretty much boring creme colored head and gentle, shy lacing.

Nose is hit with spice (nutmeg, cinnamon ) and what I can only describe as earthy malt.

Taste starts off with notable cinnamon that overpowers everything at first only to reveal in the next swig, cinnamon! This beer is like an Atomic Fireball that isn't hot.

Body is thinking with a, that's right, cinnamon inspired aftertaste.

    Greetings, fellow NBSers,

It’s a cloudy 58 in the city whose main east-west street is in a Maclemore video. Yesterday was a middling one for college football. My Eagles were victorious, but their former QB beat my Huskies last night in what had looked like their most favorable chance to beat Oregon in years. Now watching the Seahawks figure out how they can lose at the last minute this week, although Earl Thomas is bringing it.

Going with an IPA from a western Washington brewery I once thought outstanding but have long since decided is one of the second tier:

    http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/684/104394/?ba=woemad

Not bad, definitely a bitter, dank take on the style. I’d drink it again but wouldn’t go to much effort to track it down, either.

Good afternoon again all NBS followers it's back below freezing here in central NH. And I've had time to try one more new beer for this Sunday. It's Maple Collaboration from Peak Organic Brewing.
This beer poured a light reddish brown into my tulip glass. A very thin white head formed on top.
The nose is mostly of the maple flavor in this beer there is a little IMO burnt nose to this beer.
The first taste is a maple flavored ale with a little bit of sweetness. Not much actually else to taste just a mild maple flavor with still this lingering burnt sense in the background in the taste as well as the nose. I know this maple burnt taste from somewhere but it fails to click where it actually comes from.
    The mouth feel is smooth.
This is a maple flavored beer not much else not really a great maple flavor or what I had expected. I probably wouldn't buy this again but if someone offered me one it is a drinkable beer.

Hello again NBS compadres. I am thoroughly enjoying this bad boy that I have seen occasionally on shelf for untold years now and have never purchased. Guarandamntee I will be getting this again. Holy shit is it good. Talk about a beer hitting the sweet spot. Just sweet enough, just drinkable enough, hides the alcohol pretty well, and so much bright flavor blowing out of each sip. Woooaaaaahhh.

I am posting link to my review below, but first I am going to link a different review for this beer for your reading pleasure. My thoughts are this fellow had a few of this very strong beer before reviewing haha. Very funny

Hope you also have a Great Beer in your glass. Cheers!
