What beer are you drinking now? #1096

Franziskaner Weissbier

 

The fine autumn weather this year has me wanting to do nothing but drink beer on the patio and soak it all in before winter rears it's ugly head. A little Station 26 Single Hop IPA to add to the experience. If you're ever in Denver, pay them a visit. A really fun place located in an old fire station, who's beer seems to keep getting better.

 

I could almost get down with this if it didn't smell like a Yankee candle

 

Opening with Casco Bay Riptide (4.03).

Giant bottle, could be used as a weapon in a pinch...even empty.

Appearance : First off I need to comment that when I cracked the cap there was a bit of sludge around the inside of the neck of the bottle. Unappetizing, but once poured none of that came out. The body is mostly opaque, with a golden blonde glow. Head is initially large, 3 fingers, and recedes to a creamy bubbly ring.

Smell : Agitation yields lots of fruity and floral aromas combined; mostly watermelon, cantaloupe, some raspberry fizz on the nose as well. A slight sour crystal malt character as well.

Taste : Quite complex, but thin and spurious. Quite a bit of bitterness and rind out front, with a shot of cracked black pepper, and then practically nothing. I'm not getting any of the chili pepper or coconut described on the bottle.

Feel : Light to medium bodied, highly carbonated, and a pasty semi-dry finish.

Overall : Just not impressive. It was pent up to be so much, and it comes out like any other run-of-the-mill Saison, maybe even less impressive.

Thanks. I was told that by the owner before me. He had said he called the company and the hull number was 83. It kind of makes sense as it was supposed to be one from the second year of production. 1933 would sound like 1903 on the phone or could be confused. It was a fun boat to sail. No one could catch me when I put my back end to the wind. Of course one day a small wind shift put my sailing partner overboard. I heard the luft and ducked. He wasn't as experienced and was standing up at the time. He never sailed with me again.
