I only went and paid £11 for a bottle of Thornbridge Hall Imperial Raspberry Stout. I thought the raspberries were going to be subtle but it was like drinking a fucking lambic. It's probably not a bad beer but I'm not into that lambic shit. Washing it down with a Good King Henry.

On a side note. Thornbridge Jaipur on cask is weird. I much prefer the bottled version.

Heresy! Resign! Judas! Mind you it's been an age since I gad cask Jaipur and never had it bottled.

this is where I chime in with the bit that goes 'Jaipur isn't as good as it used to be', which is probably true. It used to be one of those go to beers that was a revelation on cask, the forerunner of the UK brewers assault on American style IPA's and inspiration for a host of imitations.
As for the Raspberry Stout, I'm glad I sampled it as it saved me wasting money on it, can't make up it's mind whether it wants to be an Imperial Stout or a Raspberry bomb... and absolutely nothing like a Lambic.

I prefer the cask version, when its on form it's still excellent imo. I believe they use a different yeast for the bottled/keg version, which would make a difference

I have had some gash pints of Jaipur though

I don't think I've had Jaipur on cask
but I think I can correlate
because even though on cask Wild Swan is near perfect and near dull bottled
BUT Oakham Citra is spot on bottled & detergent like lemony on cask when I had it

I'm not a fan of Oakham's cask offerings although Green Devil is something else. As for Jaipur, I always thought the pub was the problem but the Kingston Arms in Cambridge don't let their beers go bad.

Favourite little drinking tip thanks to B&Ms
Bottle of Sadler's Hop Bomb (Which funnily enough takes me back to Dobbin's bitters)
followed by (Dublin brewed) Guinness Foreign Extra
Leaving a splash of the Hop Bomb in the glass makes the FES
taste like bottled Guinness from 25 years ago, which was the back up drink for keg only pubs

Crafty Dan's 13 Guns. Eek! Almost as bad as the faux craft beer I had in Korea.

Really? I quite like that when I had it ages ago in a can . Unless Marstons have now started brewing it and they've Marstonised it. Wouldn't surprise me

Isn't Crafty Dan just a Thwaites rebrand anyway? That's the reason I always avoided them anyway.

Good excuse to break out "that" picture of the Thwaites Brewery at least.

Yeah it was their craft range

Then Marstons took over most of or all their brewing, but I thought Twats kept on brewing on a small brewery or something. Might be wrong

Not sure if I drank it pre or post takeover

meh, it wasn't earth shattering or anything, just a nice modern hoppy pale ale. Not as is if there aren't a lot of them about

According to wiki they retained the Crafty Dan stuff which they still brew, though it cited a BBC article that said nothing about the Craft Dan brand (go wikipedia)

Looking through my Grandad's old war photos today and came across this one of some of his RAF (261 squadron) chums in 1942 (I think they were in Ceylon at the time) enjoying some beer. TGIF you think? Or TGTBJRHSAU (Thank Goodness Those Bally Japanese Rotters Have Stopped Attacking Us)?

I had the Three Core Craftys before takeover
Triple C, 13 Guns & Big Ben and that's the order
Triple C, such an improvement on the regular Thwaites, better than supermarket not quite,
on par with Camden not as good as say Weird Beard
13 Guns was top quality supermarket (discounting M&S & Tesco Finest) quality
above average, good but still lacking
Big Ben was dire, lacked all the 'grown up' elements of craft browns,
not as much flavour as regular Newkie

Possibly the Lil Brewdy was post and it was poor V. poor

    Hog's Back Hop Garden, Fuller's Oliver's Island
& Waitrose Sunset which have just seen is brewed by Martians ... er sorry Marston's :slight_frown:
