I will probably do the same, but if it was a 12 oz bottle and I happened to have #pgw I might go with that.

 

Run the knife around the outside, I hold the knife firmly against the bottle facing me with my thumb on the other side. Then cut into the middle of the top wax until you hit the cap and twist the knife, it should pop off.

 

Why is there an entire case of rare in the background

 

That's just an empty box I brought back from Rare Day for a buddy of mine who was at the share.

 

I hope everything is ok with your wife -- that wax reminds me of Terrapin (@UTvols05 was th first one to send it to me) and it's a lot of work -- and hopefully your first beer of the night because I wouldn't want to try it non-sober. A little saw-type knife like you might find on a pocketknife or the kind on a fancy corkscrew is probably your best option.

Day one from @devilfluff. Spellbound brewing whatwerewethinking barleywine aged in buffalo trace barrels. First time having this and it is amazing! Very smooth and sweet but a nice boozy finish, nice pick Jesse!

Day 1 of the Turkey Sixer - In #pgw, Foothills Sexual Chocolate courtesy of @edhizdeid.... and its sister, Barrel Aged Sexual Chocolate.

I got the latter in the SWTFYW White Elephant (thus the second #pgw) back in January and have been holding onto it hoping to do this very side-by-side.

So very excited to unwrap this bottle, and after just a sip I can say that I'll have NO problem doing 44oz of this magic elixir. Off to a great start and looking forward to the rest of the weekend, thanks Ed!

Ok, maybe it was just a piece of my fingernail, but it hurt really bad.

Pro tip, don't google "hand with missing finger" and look at the images.

Now for my day 1. This one was not a surprise based on @Kramerbarthomer 's hints. thats not a problem though. was wanting to try this.





I dont do the blind tasting because I love the unwrapping every morning and thinking about the beer all day. So I picked up a 4 pack of regular Ten Fidy to have them side by side. I tried to recruit a friend for help on this.... didnt work out. so I am drinking the whole ~13% stovepipe and added a 12 oz 10.5% beer. thanksgiving morning is going to be tough.



This is when I started. The BA version puts the regular to shame. I think the regular is the best stout in a can. But the barrel character of the BA version is so well rounded and delicious. It is perfectly aged- if you have one, no need to hold onto it. drink it now.

an hour into it and my brother (who is drinking bourbon but wont try a bourbon barreled beer) are watching a tom segura on stand up on Netflix... I'll tell you hwat.

 

I said the same thing yesterday. My beer of the year.
