Happy Wednesday BA, here are my new beers today:

Still pretty fresh, 9/3 canning. Think this is the first time I've actually seen a 330 ml can. Very long cascading nitro show on this one, probably over twice as long than I can recall on regular Guinness. Anyways, I thought this was a very good example of English IPA, given the nitro aspect as well. Dense lasting head with creamy lacing coating the whole glass as expected; slight haze in clarity. Muted aromas from nitro foam, but not too badly. Aromas and flavors of grapefruit, orange, melon, pear, apple, toasted biscuit, and light caramel/nutty malt; with herbal/floral/grassy and light peppery hop flavors with a bit of earthy yeast. Light-moderate herbal/spicy bitterness; with a very well balanced malt/bitter finish. Light carbonation(obviously) with a bit above a medium body; very creamy/silky finish with a touch of hop stickiness in the mouthfeel. Very drinkable and robust in flavors. Overall, this was really enjoyable. Nice unique blend of English fruity/earthy hops with balanced maltiness and bitterness. Not as yeasty as I expected, but still has the noticeable characteristics.

I've got a good amount of sour beer piling recently, especially with all the Mikkeller Spontaneous series stuff going around here now. This was awesome! Aromas and flavors big fresh blackberry with tart lemon, lime, green apple, white grape, pepper, oak, hay, straw, grass, leather, light white vinegar, and musty funk. Moderate fruity/earthy/tannic tartness and light spiciness; with a great balanced finish of acidity, spice, and moderate sweetness. Moderate acidic/tannic mouthfeel with a touch of wheat creaminess. Very smooth drinking thanks to the balanced acidity as well; especially given that the carbonation was much lower than I've had with the other Tilquins(but not too low). Still has a nice moderate dryness from acidity on the finish. Overall, all around outstanding. Doesn't quite par up to the Plum or Classic offerings IMO, though.

This was a damn good massive DIPA @ 10.4%. Aromas and flavors of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, lemon zest, orange peel, citrus rind, and pine hops; with moderate malt sweetness of honey, biscuit, and light caramel; with floral/grassy hop earthiness. Nice moderate pine/grassy/citrus rind bitter finish; with a medium-full body with a fair amount of hop stickiness and balanced bready creaminess in the mouthfeel. Really great bitter/sweet balanced finish; not too heavy feeling on malts overall, but definitely significant as would be expected. Light-moderate dryness from sticky bitterness. Smooth sipping finish with small lingering alcohol warmth. No complaints!

    Cheers!

One of my favorite instrumental tracks of all time.

Barrier Daddy Warbucks at Haymaker in NYC.

Gonna go On Record© and make the statement: Barrier makes the best hoppy beer in New York, and it's not even close. Other Half and Peekskill have made world class beer, and their usual fare is awesome, Brooklyn is classic, Grimm definitely up and coming, but Barrier is a tier above.

It's about 3 months old, but I decided to pick it up tonight the first time I saw it in a store. Best by date is in February '16, and it's holding up quite well.

I was excited for this beer but unfortunately maybe I got a bad sample. This one was....well....

    look: 4.25 | smell: 3.75 | taste: 2.25 | feel: 4 | overall: 3

    Bottled on 08/12/2015.

It pours a dark copper color, almost iced tea-like. Head is tightly knit and creamy, 2 fingers and hardly budges. 80% opaque.

Aromas of sharp cinnamon, mellowed by cantaloupe, nutmeg, and pumpkins. A squirt of orange citrus as well. Bouquet takes a little effort to nose even in a Weizen glass.

The flavor has an initial rush of delicious baked (yet controlled) brown sugar and bourbon, but quickly turns way cloyingly sweet, almost a pumpkin jellybean. This is met with a short-lived - yet still problematic - cutting whiskey-like alcohol burn.

The feel is pleasant, mouth filling, warm alcohol presence, and properly carbonated. Wet finish.

I may have gotten a bad sample. Nonetheless I will not be revisiting this one. That pumpkin jellybean cotton candy crap mixed with the cheap vodka burn is too much for me.

I thought I would try something by a brewery I don't know while in Florida. Bold City Mad Manatee IPA. Definite a citrus hop IPA, but the aroma and flavor are dialed back. The complexion is very murky. The hop burn on the tongue is right.

Not my experience with that beer, they age pretty nicely. Maybe yours had a tough road to your beer fridge?
