Managed to get a Jones Dog BA, but didn't realize they'd BA'd End of Days, and Final Act. Didn't hear about those anywhere in the Naperville area.

You are still supporting the "local corner store" by going to The Open Bottle.

Hit today. I walked into Binnys Naperville as they were opening their cases and got a jones and end of days but that's all they had. 2 cases jones 1 of eod. Bout 4 dudes were there that looked like they were waiting for it so I'm sure it was gone shortly after.

I happened by Naperville ~10:30am today and saw some guys walking out with goofy grins, so I figured something was just put out. Sure enough it was BA Jones Dog and End of Days, limit one bottle of each. (Bonus: 2 cases of fresh Dino S'mores 4pks on the floor)

Thats funny. A contact at another binnys said those 4 guys were going around following the truck to multiple stores.

If the stores are communicating with each other enough to realize this is happening, why not just refuse to sell to them?

Yeah, this is what I was gonna say.

You run into two problems here:

    1) A lot of bigger chains don't like the hassle of potential lawsuits, bad press, etc., so they just let this stuff go. It's why the security guys at Best Buy aren't supposed to touch customers who are stealing.

    2) Even if the chain does care, the employees also have to care enough to stop the truck-chasing losers. And a lot of employees are just there to do their job, which is get the beer on the shelf (I'm not mocking them, just saying many people don't the same sort of principled-stance as some of us on BA might). So even if they know these guys are milling around everywhere, they might not give a shit who gets the beer, as long as they're not breaking rules.

    Yup this exactly.

Yup. We used to set a aside a small amount for each group.

If people want to hang around waiting at stores for hours upon hours waiting for delivery and/or chase a truck around, more power to them. I certainly have done my share of waiting in line for BCBS, so it's not much different. I just choose which beers I'm willing to wait for and I value my time doing other things (job, family, etc.) more than I do waiting for other beers. It is a bummer for beers I've never tried but would like to (Hyper Dog, End of Days, Darkness), but oh well. I'll probably luck into it someday, somehow; if not, I'll just keep living and drinking what I can.

Also, I think it pretty petty when industry folks on BA, or twitter, whine about lingerers and truck chasers. People who work at Binnys, or any other craft beer store, get to cherry pick everything that comes in for themselves or friends.

I don't chase trucks or do this new lingering thing, but why judge others for how they choose to spend their time. If you want it go get it!

...and since this a PW thread, bring back that The Brown and Stirred please. Nobody freaks out about it and, for me, it is a top 5 beer.

Thats apples to oranges. One group is actively promoting the benefit of the store and the regular customers. The other group is just garbage

I don't 100% agree that it's petty. I've never worked in the industry, but I know plenty of places that don't allow the employees to get much of anything (obviously that's not the case everywhere), and even if they do get some of this stuff, it's one of the perks of their job. Wherever you work, you can probably leverage your job in some area (whether it be by getting a discount on things, getting favors from people, etc.), and as far as I know, most of these people aren't making bank selling beer. Obviously I'd be pretty pissed if I lined up at Whole Foods and the employees purchased all the BCBS variants before selling anything to me (as happened to someone in another thread), but I get that some concessions should be made to them.

I agree with you that how people spend their time is their business, but I think that at a certain point this sort of behavior is a detriment to the industry as a whole, because instead of getting the beer out to more people and perhaps expanding your customer base, you've got a few people running around scooping up everything, creating discontent with the rest. I understand waiting around for a beer, but some of this behavior is too extreme, in my opinion, and is obnoxious to everyone else (people who work at beer store, regular customers of said beer store, everyone else trying to get the beer, etc.). It's like the Pappy craze--You've got assholes scooping up bunches of bottles and flipping them for thousands of dollars, and now the people who really enjoy the stuff can't get it/afford it, and the people who want to surprise someone with it as a gift can't get it either. It just creates discontent all over.

In terms of Brown and Stirred, didn't they recently put some out? I'm pretty sure I've seen it within the last week or so at one of the few stores I go to (PW site says they last put it out around 10/30/15).

There are times when I want to say this same thing, but I have to take a step back and realize they just have a different way of spending their time than I do. If they want it that bad to go to those measures, then so be it. I admit that I will get a bit worked up at times about these antics, but I just have to think "Serenity Now" a la Frank Costanza.

As mentioned above, it was released recently and I'm pretty sure you can find it on the shelves still. If it's the BA version you're looking for, I still have a bottle if you want it. I bought extra and it was NOT my kind of beer.

Is there a reason why breweries like spiteful and PW can't do a brewery only bottle release for their super limited releases much like half acre does? I know tap room space (read: not having one) is an issue - and maybe neither brewery has a permit to sell on-premise bottles to go?

It would help spread into more hands...and also make more margin versus selling through the retailers

Same here. My initial thought is that is pisses me off that, as a fan of Pdubs beers, that I likely won't get my hands on any of these beers because I just don't have the time to chase trucks and sit in stores waiting for a shipment to come in. I'd also love to cast stones about hoarders or beer traders scooping up all of the stock for their own gain, but I'm sure I've been guilty of similar behavior in the past. If that's how they want to spend their time, so be it. It's also given me a bit of a 'f*ck it' mentality regarding the rare beers. If I see 'em great. If not, I'll grab one of the plentiful beers that line the shelves in the Chicagoland area. It's stupid of me to waste my time caring what others do with their time when it doesn't impact me in any sort of truly meaningful way.

FYI - Archer Liquors is showing as having the B&S in stock. You may want to call and confirm.
