These threads are popular and fun. So what is the best lager (any style), from your state or country?

In PA, I would go with Stoudt's Smooth Hoperator.

As a fellow Pennsylvanian this is a truly tough question since there are so many high quality lagers produced by numerous PA breweries. If I had a gun to my head maybe I would pick Troegs Sunshine Pils!?!

    Cheers!

I'm sure most would say Devils Backbone Vienna Lager.

Love it, but really hard to track down here. I might agree though, a bit more hoppy than most.

Captain Jack from Old Mecklenburg in Charlotte. The only thing better is their Fest beer.

Best one I've had has definitely been Quinannan Falls Lager by Bell's.

First that came to mind was 32*/50* kolsch. Not a huge fan of lagers in general but did enjoy that.

If I have to pick one from Jack's Abby, it probably has to be Hoponious Union.

Admittedly, I don't drink a lot of Straub, but when I do it's aways clean and fresh.
Got some Groundhog in the fridge now, that's pretty good, too.

I live within an hour of the Straub brewery and have never been there! I was drinking the IPL at the company Christmas party. Interestingly, I'm also about an hour from Southern Tier and have been there several times. I'm primarily an IPA guy, and Straub's offerings tend to be more "mainstream" but I mean it when I say "fresh and clean", when I do have Straub that's what I get, they make good, honest, clean beers. Pete's Special Dark (I think it's called simply "Amber" now) is also very good.

I think I'll go with Jack Straw since it's bottled but Fat Heads makes a bunch of other damn fine and under appreciated lagers. They excel at much more than just hop bombs.

Also GLBC has a few classics

and I think I'm the only person who actually really likes Big Woody from Brew Kettle

I love what they are doing lately- I make a point to get a few sampler cases every year by way of my sister. It was great to see that IPL 'graduate' from the sampler into a stand-alone; I hope it stays that way!
