What is floating in my beer?

So this may be a dumb question as I am not big into the whole home brew and don't know much of the science behind brewing but bear with me. I poured out one of my BA stouts into a glass and right before I drink it I look down and see a huge glob in there.

First thing anyone thinks is "wtf is this" so I immediately Google. I come across a number of articles saying you can have yeast floating in your beer and it's fine. Now I'm pretty sure I've seen yeast at the bottom of my beers before like wheat beers where it looks like sand or sediment. This however, was a big slimy glob that looked like some put a big lugi in my beer.

Can someone tell me what this is and if I should continue on enjoying this beer?

    Cheers!

I had one in a bottle of Two Hearted Ale I had at a bar, luckily I saw it before drinking. Looked like someone spunked into my beer. No clue what it was.

Can you describe it a bit? Or add a pic? What beer are you drinking?

Chances are that what you're seeing is yeast or if not that, then coagulated protein. Either one is okay to drink. However, if it's got some feet and is swimming, well......

Not sure what it is, but I know what you're talking about. Try posting this in Homebrew section. http://www.beeradvocate.com/community/forums/homebrewing.8/

Yup. Just had a big ol' protein blob in a bottle of Lervig "Konrad's Stout" a few nights ago.

Won't let me post a picture from my phone unfortunately. It's from a bottle of BA Imp Stout Trooper.

So if it's coagulated protein is the rest of the beer ok to drink? I already drank half before I poured the rest into my glass.

Yes, it's fine. It is almost Impossible to make beer unsafe to drink. Even if it's infected, it might taste off/funky, but it won't hurt you.

I think the answer is to remove it then drink the beer.
Edit: How old is your BA Imperial Stout Trooper?

It's probably coagulated protein, but if it has a nervous system it's a slug, either way it's harmless.

I think all of us capture AND post pictures from our phones lol. In fact I use my phone for all of my beer advocate needs. Just use a photo uploading app.

    Had one once.

It was sent in for actual testing.

Turned out it was coco butter from added chocolate.
