Picked a bottle of this up in Cali a couple weeks ago. Excited to give it a run. Great, creative review by the way.

Mega Citronic blew me away at a share a few months back. Excellent beer. I preferred it over the NE guys (found it to have all the same qualities but just tastier).

I wanted to visit this place when in LA recently but damn if it isn't a trek to get to and completely out of the way from all other LA breweries.

Pours a beautiful cloudy copper color with a two finger head, some of which sticks around until the end and heavy lacing.

The smell if full of pine, grapefruit and citrus hops as well as sweet malts, caramel and oats.

Light pine and grapefruit hops dominate the taste followed by sweet malts and oats. Lots of sweetness and bitterness on the back end. The sweet malts and oats sit just under the hops and makes for an interesting taste. The finish is slightly dry. This is and interesting take on an American Pale Ale.

And here I sit wondering what I am going to open tonight. Just coincidentally, @Josholson666 generously sent me one of those, so no time like the present! (well...very near future, to be exact :sunglasses:).

For my second NBS beer I'm moving across the pond for this delicious brew.

L-The beer pours a clear brown with reddish highlights. The modest pour leads to a one finger creme colored head which recedes to a thin film. Lacing is spotty.
S- The aroma of sweet cherries is prominant. Behind the cherries is a bit of toffee and barnyard mustiness.
T- Fruit flavor in the form of black cherries. It's a sweet cherry rather than the sour cherry which I sometimes find overwhelming. While the beer is sweet from the fruit and malts, I don't find it cloying. The beer is well balanced between sweet and sour.
F- Carbonation is light. Overall mouthfeel is medium. The beer coats and the fruitiness lingers for a good time.
O- This would make and amazing beer to pair with dessert. I could see enjoying it equally well with vanilla ice cream or a rich chocolate cake. Recommended to anyone looking for a good dessert beer.

Thanks - every once in a while having a little fun with the "review" on NBS seems necessary . I think you'll enjoy it. I thought it was a well made beer, perhaps leaning a tad towards a wild ale than typical Berliner but well made nonetheless.

Definitely interested in this. My only reason for hesitation would be the vanilla. 9 out of 10 beers with vanilla tend to be vanilla bombs, in my experience. Maybe it's just my palate, but a little vanilla really seems to go a long ways with me.

Good Evening NBSers. And thank you once again Maria for your practical poetry and pilsner history lesson and review.
A gloomy afternoon has turned into a sunny evening here in Western Coventry. I wanted to share some pics of my Maine visit with you all. What a good time in Portland ME. Great food and a Fantastic brewery town. of course hit Industrial Way and had a great visit at FB - got my Epiphany- sorry to keep mentioning that its just one of my top brews. I actually dream about the next time I'm going to get it. And speaking of dreams they virtually came true visiting Allagash. 4 free 2 oz. pours of some of their flagship and new beers. Folks its a must if you're up there. This place is a serious brewery- massive in stature with state of the art equipment and a barrel room that explains how they are able to produce and distribute so many different and complex brews. I must admit I had a taste of this one on my rack that day and fell in love with it. Have not seen this in stores yet so grabbed a four. Probably should have grabbed two fours of this one:

Allagash Brewing little brett, dry hopped with Mosaic.

The beer pours a pale clear straw yellow with a 1/4" head topped with large bubbles that quickly disappear and leave traces of spotty lacing.

Huge Aroma on this brew. Starts lots of bright lemony notes with lots of tropical fruit and fresh baked sourdough bread. There are some touches of floral notes sitting on top of fresh cut hay- like walking through a summer meadow. The Brett gives this what some would call the barnyard notes. Really super funkiness rounds out this delightful smelling brew.

Of course the Mosaic continues to shine through on the taste with pineapple and passionfruit and the grassiness. There is a touch of white pepper and the Brett provides a wildness that tastes like a true farmhouse ale. Loads of mouth filling and lasting flavor with low alcohol. Lemony finish that is tart, crisp and refreshing. Super super funky. One of the funkiest Ive had. Really interesting and different.

Feel as mentioned above - crisp and dry with just enough carbonation. Thirst quenching and so freaking easy to drink.
You just want one sip after another.

They say this is one of their employees favorites and I can certainly understand why. With everything they produce they have managed to brew a beer that to me is completely different. That's a challenge in itself- just for them and the # of different brews they make. Beer is hopped and then dry hopped with 100% Mosaic and fermented in 100% SS with their own wild house strain of Brett. I think the no oak- SS works like a charm on this one. Folks I absolutely love the originality and whole package on this one. If you like funk get your hands on this. Highly recommended.

    See some pics below.
[IMG] [IMG] [IMG] And for new Old Vinyl Sunday I pick a tune from Chicago ( pre Terry Kath death). Loved this record and the guitar and arrangements. Kind of speaks volumes of where we are currently in this country. See you all next Saturday for Crate Vinyl Day hosted by @PatrickCT and a group of beer and record geeks! Sorry for the length but as always thanks for listening!!

I always try to take into consideration that I am a maple and vanilla junkie when it comes to reviewing beers. I would say that this one slighlty favors the sweetness over the coffee, but I am usually most impressed by balance and this one impressed me. Cream Ales can't be an easy style to do that with. I also had Jackie O's Coffee Blonde "Cool Beans" this week and while it is a little more coffee forward, I was shocked at how much the base beer came through for that style.

New Foreign Export Stout Sunday (week 597)

Greetings fellow NBSers from on the ridge in Mid Hud Val, NY. Uggh another killer day at work, not sure how many weekends like this these old bones still have in them. Guess we'll find out. Nothing like a tasty beer to chase the blues away and give rest to weary body and mind.

Drinking Gun Hill Brewing Void Of Light. It's a Foreign Export Stout, a style I am not very familiar with rating. I have had Guinness' version, and also De Dolle version, both of which were very close to each other in body and flavor. This one though is a tad thinner, a tad less roasty, definitely more cocoa character, and less dry on the finish. It has a sort of muted kind of ashy thing going on that I thought at first sip would be a detraction, but it is not, in fact as this goes along and palate adjusts it has gotten very, very delicious and creamy. My review is here

Hope you also have a Great American Beer in your glass. Cheers!

Having another brew. You can basically always count on this brewery mixing it up on a style. I like this one.

Welcome back to New Beer Sunday. I was here in spirit last Sunday, because the phone service, and thus internet, was spotty at best at my friend's cabin.

Now back at home. I went on a walk with one of my closest friends. She is an amazing woman, and I enjoy her company so much. I can spend hours with her, and it passes like no time at all. She is a special woman, and her boyfriend is a very lucky man.

So, on to the beer. I'm trying a beer I picked up yesterday when I was in the cities Imperial Cocoa Hefeweizen from Blacklist Artisan Ales in Duluth, MN. My review of it is also the first review of it on this site. So NBS in more way than one.

This beer took me a while to start, because the head was insanely thick. Once it went down, it is an interesting tasting beer. Strong chocolate, I also get some of the banana from a traditional Hefe. It doesn't hit right away, but it's there. Very interesting.

    This pours a pitch black.
The head is extremely thick, maybe I poured it wrong. It is brown colored, and frothy.
The nose has the wheat aroma, mixed with chocolate notes.
The taste of this beer - after the head went down - I get a very strong chocolate taste. I do also get the banana feel that you get in a traditional wheat beer, but just not right away. Very interesting beer.
