Excellent beer to start the thread with! I haven't had access to Modern Times for about a year, but this is definitely my favorite offering from them.

Kicking off the weekend a little earlier than usual after a busy Thursday. I'm drinking this now just because! Looks like a sunny and warmer day after it felt like early October yesterday. A good opportunity to get a few things accomplished outdoors. Enjoy your day!

I heard this on the local high school radio station and it kind of stuck in my head. I'm going to let it out now!

Mornin' BA's! Around 9:30 here in cloudy NOVA & I had planned on doing a slew of new-to-me local brews yesterday, but life intervened. Oh well, why not go for it today? Up first:
Jeffrey's Bay Watermelon Saison from O'Connor in Norfolk, VA. It's definitely interesting, lots of robust spice & floral notes. The watermelon aspect is more rind than meat, which actually seems to work better with the overall flavor profile. Light feel, even for the style & extremely dry up front. The finish is super refreshing. I like it. :-)

Well, I'm almost there....just one more day without beer and I'll have made it through the week. Now what's worse than not drinking beer you ask? Knowing how much money I'm going to be spending when that one final day is over. Already have my pile of goodies prepared:
    1. New Belgium Tart Lychee 5. Fat Tire & Friends Collab Pack
    2. The Bruery Tart of Darkness 6. 2 mixed 4 packs which include 6 Evil Twin beers, one Off Color
    3. Une Anne Strawberry American Wild Ale hibiscus gose and some gold lager
    4. Pipework's Rum Barrel-aged Good Fiend
My wallet says: "NOOOOO! YOUR TAKING OUT MY INSIDES! AAAAAA!!"
    But my heart says:".....BEEEEEEEEEER!

Hey again, BA's! Now coming up on 11 here in still-cloudy NOVA & I'm onto local offering #2:
Another Saison. This is Two-Headed Calf from Adroit Theory in Sterling, VA. Honey/mango Saison per the label...& it doesn't waste any time letting you know on the palate. The honey is initially somewhat overpowering, it develops a sort of raw sweetness that permeates into most everything else. I had to dig for the mango (& really almost everything else) - but with each sip I'm becoming more acclimated to the honey & it's starting to taste more like a Saision, albeit an aggressive one :-)

Afterthought on the Jeffrey's Bay - as it warmed it began to develop a really cloying & unpleasant medicinal quality. :slight_frown:

    Tunes:

This seemed apt, given the 'unique' label art on this brew

Appearance: Hazy gold, very appealing. White cap, good lacing.

Aroma: Malt then a beautiful melange of almost tropical hop scents, I definitely get pineapple and something that's either mango or tangerine. Really smells good.

Taste: Flavor echos the aroma but exceeds it in intensity. Sweet malt rolling around in those hops. It all works together rather well. Clean finish with malt and hops in concert.

Texture: Medium in feel and no more substantial than it needs to be.

Overall: I like this and I'm not especially a heavy IPA fan. At 7.5% perhaps it is the heft I find appealing. More stuff in there I suppose because the flavor is solid and the alcohol isn't apparent. One to having when you're having just one.
