Yeah, its when you get to the ones where youre dancing topless on stage in the hofbrauhaus with an inflatable sheep you start not wanting to fill those gaps in anymore

Erlkönig is not worth the trip (to Gaustadt) for the beer. I found it generic and boring.

The wife and I will be visiting Munich in 2017. You mentioned that you had an Edelstoff at Augustiner Keller that was poured "from the wood." Are you referring to a wood barrel? Is this the gravity feed beer that I've heard about? Does this beer have the big foamy head that I always see in the photos? How did it taste? Sorry about all the questions but I'm very eager to taste "the real thing." Anyone else; feel free to chime in.

Augustiner also serves from the wood at their Klosterwirt next to the Frauenkirche. Yes the lager has a big foamy head and is fantastic! I haven't been to their 'am Dom' location nearby so I can't comment on availability there.

You can also try an Ayinger Jahrhundertbier, also fresh from a wooden barrel at their pub near the Hofbrauhaus. Highly recommended, a close second to Edelstoff..

well, its mostly all been said but yep, at the augustiner keller the edelstoff is straight from a wooden barrel on gravity, the thing I like about it is the temperature and the smoothness of the carbonation, really easy to knock a few back. As mentioned above, try the ayinger pub as well for beer straight from the wood (tapped at 5pm usually). Have a great time!
