    Home now and enjoying a VA beer. A Strangeways stout, aged in whiskey barrels. They advertised this as their first stout, and because they are them :astonished:, they aged it in various barrels. Ape Armageddon Imperial Stout:

    We tried 4 types on tap a couple months ago. Tequila and wine (remember-guessing at the latter) weren't worth buying. Whiskey was decent - today's brew,
    In proper glassware,
    Use process of elimination sonce it's hard to see,
    But surprisingly the rum barrel was tasty (for the few of you that don't know :wink: - I generally dislike rum in my beer). It's in the fridge for another time.

    The size just makes the lack of sharpness apparent,, if that is the case. ; )

    About 10-12 days ago I was having an Edmund Fitzgerald Porter, from Great Lakes Brewing, paired with a portion of a blue cheese from the Rogue River Farms out in Oregon (no connection to the brewery).

    Tonight is a repeat, both to finish off the last of that cheese and to check and see if I like the pairing as much as I did that night. For me, it is definitely a keeper. As before, the rich buttery cheese with its slightly spicy, chocolatey, hazelnut flavors goes quite well with the flavors of the porter.

    The way this pairing is working out reminds me of a scene from a Stanley Kubrick movie, nothing harsh, everything smooth and easy and everything fitting together nicely.

    FYI: This movie premiered in 1968 and was the most popular adult science fiction movie ever until Star Wars appeared on the scene. One thing that was particularly noteworthy about the whole movie was its special effects.

    Lemont is a cool little town. Nick's Tavern is an old school joint as well with huge burgers and a handful of drafts.

    Imperial Oak Brewing is pretty cool (though it's been a long time since I've been by) and you're not all that far away. Westmont, oddly enough, has a great Chinese hand pulled noodle shop, an amazing Korean place, and a really great taco place.

    There are some good beer stores in Glassboro; if you're gonna be down that way again, just make a pit stop en route.

    The next time I'm down there I'll definitely be on the lookout for those chips. We had the same delivery service, and big cans are definitely the way potato chips should be sold!

    Mr. Maduro, how'd you like that No Veto? I really like it but it's a bolder brown than that of your professed love, as I recall said Cigar City offering.

    Side note:
    Is it a reflection of me or society the iPhone wanted to correct Mr. to Me.?? :confused::astonished::grimacing:

    I mean I'm a self-centered prick, but I thought I hid it from my phone :flushed::flushed::grinning:.
