new beer sunday is coming . . .

From Science and Food - "On the surface, the distinctions between the two methods seem self-explanatory. Hot brew quickly produces fragrant java with bite and acidity, whereas cold brew rewards patience with condensed coffee that is smooth and sweet. To begin to understand the flavor profile differences, it helps to first get acquainted with the coffee grounds."

Good morning. I spent all of yesterday at Milwaukee's Festa Italiana, wandering through the exhibits and vendors, sampling white wines from throughout Italy, and overeating. A highlight was having a Miller Lite and a slice while watching a Dean Martin tribute singer. Long, fun day.

Not sure what this lovely looking Saturday will bring, but I'm going to start with an old favorite:

It is really interesting tasting the differences. With coffee beers being so popular it is not so much just a case of 'coffee added' these days - seems like brewers are being more experimental with how they use it and what kinds of beans and coffee brewing methods are used.

My last Cigar City Cubano Expresso. If you liked Founders Sumatra and/or Sixpoint 4 Beans (technically not a brown, but very similar flavors), seek this one out.

    This one seemed interesting . . .

Appearance: Light clear golden, white cap with good lacing.

Aroma: Fairly strong earthy hops, spicy, piney, dark root vegetable leaf present. Malt well hidden.

Taste: Hop taste so thick you can almost chew it. It's a good taste albeit somewhat simple. Sweet malt acts as a carrier and isn't strong enough to balance but it's presence is noted. Good strong clean finish with a refreshing hop aftertaste and no lingering bitterness.

Texture: Mild to medium depending on one's take.

Overall: Less is more, so they say, but sometimes it's just less. I'll take a flying stab and call this a Session IPA, partly because that's how it tastes and partly because the Brewer uses that phrase as well. ABV isn't listed but this isn't very strong. Another instance where Original Gravity was dialed back some but the hop hopper remained wide open. With the really good IPAs this Brewery already produces I don't see why they bother with this unless they just need a Session in the line to give everybody a choice. IPA Light I guess.

Agreed! There is plenty of both, and the lemon peel/acidity still brings home the fact that it is an IPA...cheers!

Happy Saturday, BA's! It's still 176 degrees everywhere in the country, and everything is on fire around these parts, but is that gonna stop us from having a great day?! NO! (...unless you've been evacuated from your home or what not. Sorry to those of you who have, I mean no offense :sunglasses:.) Enough with the weather report. Glass of the Day Award.

    GotD:
I'm sure this one will come as no surprise to anyone, so @Chaz , that is one Helles :slight_smile:rolleyes:slight_smile: of a Schell's glass! :grinning: Also digging the smoking Gnome in the background, for what it's worth. Cheers and congrats.
2nd: Another theme seems to be going on here with @stevoj 's statue and the wonderful...uh...I don't even know what the hell kind of glass that is, but it's rad!
3rd: I gotta give this one out to @SomethingClever ,not necessarilly for only being the best can glass I have seen (It has my life motto printed on it ), but for it's extensive use yesterday! I must have seen it 27 times last night. It may not mean much to you after receiving the Glass of the Fucking Decade Award previously, but it's another notch on the club.
Honorable mentions Go out to @laketang for the fitting Schooner Mug scene created to compliment the Old Tankard, and to @Beer-Panda who has patiently been awaiting some recognition for that beauty of a non dimpled Hofbrau Krug.
Cheers everyone, and I will see you all soon!

    Hey beer peeps

This is a tasty affordable summer brew - $7.49 a sixer - I just added a bit of lemon juice to it - bit of a shandy like character!

As has been mentioned by others previously, this beer is a taste treat:

Too hot to mow/edge the law and probably too hot to wander back downtown for the Firkin Fest this evening, assuming I could even get in. Perhaps if I get my mind right first...
