American Black Ale and Black IPA are the same thing. The correct name is Cascadian Dark Ale, but it's rarely used.

Witch's Hat Brewing out of South Lyon, MI makes the Bourbon Barrel Fear of the Dark Barleywine. I picked up an allotment last year and it was incredible! One of, if not the best, examples of the style I've had.

Wulver is excellent, I prefer it to Backwoods Bastard which I also enjoy.

A tiny brewery in my neighborhood called Bottlehouse makes some pretty damn nice quads.

Mad Beach Brewing Co. I yam what I yam 9% imperial ale brewed with (you guessed it) sweet potatoes -excellent, served with brown sugar on the rim. Can't do pumpkin beer myself, but this tastes like thanksgiving!

Voodoo Tenacious Wee and Cabernet Quad. Their BA stouts get all the fanfare but these two overlooked styles were done extremely well.

Man made me go research my hads. All of these are local to Texas except Tallgrass and I had to give a shout out to the Rooster

Kentucky Habit - Karbach Brewing Co. - Quadrupel (Quad) 11.9%
Barrel-Aged Inspiration - Community Beer Company - Belgian Strong Dark Ale 10.2%
Wooden Rooster Rye Whiskey BA Belgian Style Tripel Ale - Tallgrass - Tripel 9.5%
Derailleur - Cycler's Brewing - Scotch Ale / Wee Heavy 8.5% (they did a BA on this and it was great)
Primus - Live Oak Brewing Company - Weizenbock 8.3% (also a damned good looking beer)

Central Waters Bourbon Barrel Scotch Ale, slightly better than Founders Backwoods Bastard IMHO. CW also has a Bourbon Barrel Barleywine that is reportedly excellent, though I don't personally dig the style.

Domination Ale from Horseheads Brewing, Inc. (Horseheads, NY) has always blown my mind and I'm surprised this beer doesn't get more attention from the community. It's an outstanding Barrel Aged Barleywine checking in at 12% and an overall rating of (89) on here. Whenever I pass through that area I always try to bring a few bottles home. An incredible beer coming from this small brewer. (The name always reminds me of the memorable scene in the Godfather involving the horse head but that's a different conversation for a different thread! :stuck_out_tongue:) - The beer is definitely worth seeking out.
