It's a qualified assumption that I made based on my personal experience with our kid, commonality amongst other parents and observing patrons at all forms of drinking holes for a couple of decades or so.
I lived in England for 6 years and traveled quite a bit over the years. I've seen plenty of kids at drinking establishments; ranging from newborns to young teens.

My general reminder to the thread stands.

Yes but IMO the latter question is irrelevant. If a taproom has kid seats and a menu and someone doesn't like it - that's a them problem. Just like, if a taproom says no kids and a parent doesn't like - that's a them problem as well.

Hmm. Well, my respose to this as an attorney is just because you "can" does not mean that you "should." Two very different things.

If everything about the situation is legal, then that's some really bad advice.

Children typically have never bothered while I'm visiting a taproom or brewery, but if the children are running around screaming or being obnoxious, then i have an issue with the parents. But for the most part, most of the kids have been well behaved (most of them seem bored out of their minds, lol). As long as parents don't just let their kids run free, I'm cool with the wee ones.

How so? In many circumstances there is a wide chasm between what is "legal" vs. what is the right thing to do. The most extreme but illustrivative example is KKK marching through the predominantly Jewsih Skokie, Illinois. Is it "legal," sure. Is it a "good idea," no, probably not. What you "can" do and what you "should" do are NOT the same! Just because something is "legal" does not mean that doing it does not harm others.

If a taproom/brewpub has highchairs and a kids menu and clearly is cool with kids being there - then why shouldn't I take my kid there? And what does that have to do with being an attorney?

Again, the OP was asking for the opinions of other patrons, not the owners of taprooms. And being an attorney=scrutinizing every argument and seeing from every angle. Occupational hazard. Lots of people seem to think that because you can do something, you should do it. Not the same thing!

I took the statement of @Hopgoddess312 to refer more to misbehaved hellions (could be wrong here). If the establishment allows kids, but your kid sucks at being in public, just because it is legal doesn't necessarily mean it's a good idea to bring them along. Same logic should also apply to adults and dogs for that matter.

I don't think I've ever been to a brewery or taproom that didn't have a few kids running around playing. Kids bring good vibes so I wouldn't worry about it brotha

I bristle when someone says "oh, it'll be different when you have kids". Some people won't have kids or can't have kids - just a pet peeve of mine is all. And apologies all for derailing the thread.

I get that. And you,as a patron, said that even if a beer place is a kid friendly establishment you don't think people should bring kids. And I was asking why?

I guess from my perspective a lot of people in this thread are talking past one another. A brewpub, a pub, a restaurant, a taproom, tasting room, and bar are all different things in one way or another. Would I take my kid to a bar? Nope. Would I take my kid to a brewpub? Yep.

As for the old adage "just because you can do something doesn't mean you should" - sure that's called common sense - my mom taught me that. Not law school for sure - no common sense was ever taught to me in law school.

I think the question should be "Bad parents in taprooms?"

As soon as someone in benign discussion brings up the KKK (or ****s, etc) to prove their point, it's time for everyone to just walk away.

Late to the conversation but last year I went to Florida to visit the folks. My mother is a teetotaler and has never set foot inside any establishment that sells alcohol. Long story short, her and my dad were out driving around with me and I knew of a brewery nearby in Punta Gorda that I wanted to stop in and try. My mom didn't want to but I explained to her this wasn't the roughshod bar she was used to seeing as a kid. She reluctantly agreed and we headed to Fat Point Brewery. It was October and the yard outside was decorated with pumpkins and hay bales. Young couples with kids sat sipping a beer while the kids enjoyed an actual play area. Inside it was subdued and people of all ages sat around enjoying each others company and playing board games. My mom was shocked to see it such a family and kid friendly. When the waitress came to take our order my mom said she did not drink and the waitress said no problem, she had sodas and some killer locally made root beer. My dad and I enjoyed some good brews and my mother was fascinated and even ended up getting a tour of the brewing area. Major props to them. I am definitely going back this year!

I think there is nothing better than seeing families at a brewpub on a nice Saturday/Sunday afternoon or after a day of skiing or hiking. I'm a single dad with a 3 year old and have taken my daughter a few times...but I still subscribe to the old rule that once the streetlights come on kids should be home.

As (jewish) beer-advocate parent, this thread got way out of hand and strayed too far from the original question to even be a worthwhile read.
I kick myself for even wasting that time.

Now of course i expect no less than five responses about how what i said was stupid.
so please say what you want, i wont read it, i'll be busy being an advocate for good beer.

@Todd I'm curious where you got that we are talking about the taproom in the afternoon. The OP didn't mention a time of day. You yourself admit to not taking your kids to taprooms after 5pm which I assume is for a good reason.

Personally I am split on this question If your kid is well behaved I welcome them anywhere.

With tap rooms, or bars in general, it all depends on the place, the crowd and the time of day. I still remember how cool it was when my dad would take me and my brother to the local tavern for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. I've also been in places at night with kids running around with what seems to be no adult supervision whatsoever and thought child protective services should be called. It's just common sense and good parenting more than anything else. Cheers and congratulations to you!
