Yes, there were only a few tickets left and they went quickly after the announcement of the full beer list went out. But we have been posting warnings on this forum, Facebook and Twitter that tickets were in short supply. So everyone who wanted to attend should have had ample time to grab tickets -- they went on sale on Father's Day.

@Lyke2Drink , I got the blood test last year (and PASSED :sunglasses:)- do you think I should get another one this year?
Is there a recommended frequency for them?

It was easy, painless, and just had it done while we were waiting for them to let the peasants in :grinning:

MBP It really depends on a number of factors when it comes to the frequency of PSA testing, including your age, family history and the baseline score from your test. The men's health screening that will be offered also screens for glucose, lipid and testosterone levels. If you have not had a physical in the past year, this screening can provide some beneficial data beyond just the PSA number. We screened nearly 150 men last year and hope to double that number during GABF this year.

Brewers continue to refine what they plan to pour at the Denver Rare Beer Tasting VIII.

WeldWerks Brewing now plans to serve Coconut Medianoche and Barrel Aged Mexican Achromatic.

River North Brewery is slated to offer Funk the Man #1 and Barrel Aged Mr. Sandman.

We've announce details of this year's Brewers Health Initiative, a collaboration between Pints for Prostates, the Prostate Conditions Education Council and 1400 Miles, and sponsored in part by MicroStar. This year’s screening program honors the memory of Steve Anderson of Big Bend Brewing. The Texas craft beer pioneer lost his battle with prostate cancer on Nov. 25, 2015.

A team of healthcare professionals will administer a simple blood test taking less than 10 minutes to screen for prostate specific antigen, glucose, lipids and testosterone levels. Participants will receive a confidential report sent directly to them after the event that they can review with their doctor. The free blood tests being administered have a value of $700 and scan for several important male health issues.

The locations and hours of the Brewers Health Initiative include:

Wednesday (Oct. 5), 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.: Inside the Colorado Convention Center from 10:00 a.m. to 4 p.m. for brewers and vendors at GABF during badge pick up and booth set-up.

Thursday (Oct. 6) from Noon to 5 p.m.: Focus Parking Lot at 14th Street and Stout Street adjacent to The Beerliner as part of the 1400 Miles activities. This location is across from the Colorado Convention Center and convenient to everyone attending the GABF.

Friday (Oct. 7) from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.: Outside of the McNichols Civic Center Building at 144 W. Colfax, the site of the Denver Rare Beer Tasting VIII, which is hosted by Pints for Prostates.

Saturday (Oct. 8) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.: Focus Parking Lot at 14th Street and Stout Street adjacent to the Beerliner across from the Colorado Convention Center.

Is it best to not drink before the test? Or does it matter?

Thanks for all your hard work

For some of the tests fasting is recommended, but not necessary for the PSA test. There are times set up across four days, so try to stop by early at one of the screenings.

Fasting during GABF week might not be the best plan for me :-)

It's really cool that you guys do this though.

I am glad to see the beer community rallying around something outside of beer laws.

Great event again this year. Got lots of great pours. Was disappointed a lot of the beers were out with 2 hours to go. That hasn't happened in the past.

My other complaint was the food. Not sure why the change from the usual BBQ and wouldn't have minded but the meat was swimming in what seemed like water and was bland tasting. Got some under-cooked potatoes also.

Yeah, the beer running out early was frustrating. Some were out by 2:30, a lot more by 3 and most by 3:30. It shortened the fest and created more lines. Unimpressed by that aspect and those breweries.

The food was really good, I thought. While different from the BBQ it was a touch lighter and not as filling. Unless you went back for more.

I enjoyed the food, but definitely missed out on some of the offerings... Honestly, I was having so much fun with my crew that I am not even worried about it. No clear winner, as in years passed- looking at you BA Sump.

That being said- great event as always and am already looking forward to next year!

Also- that Chocwork Orange was easily the most delicious beer I've ever smelled. I mean- it was tasty, but WOW that smell. Funny that one of my highlights is the way a beer smelled hahaha

Yeah, Chocwork smelled fantastic. It tasted okay, but the nose was next-level good.
Of the stuff I tried my faves were the Cascade Kentucky Peach, Avery Eeyore (or however you spell it) and the Yazoo Cassis. When it comes to aged beers, I'll always lean sour/funky over stouts.

Didn't go to this event but did get to try Chocwork Orange when I hit up the Funky Buddha brewery. It was the beer that taught me not to disregard a dark beer just because it had fruit in it. I thought it was great.

Cheers to everyone who turned out on Friday for Denver Rare Beer Tasting VIII. We hope you had a memorable experience. We thank the brewers who donated some truly great beers and the team of volunteers that made the event possible. We appreciate the feedback and again this year we will do a survey of ticket buyers to get your opinions on how to make next year even better.

The nature of an event like this one, with 54 brewers serving very limited edition beers, means that not everyone will get a chance to try every beer. Each brewery was asked to supply at least 7.75 gallons of beer and many brought more. We did a sweep of both floors at 2:30 p.m. (2.5 hours after the VIP opened and 1.5 hours after the General Admission session started) and at that point 10 of the 54 participating breweries had run out of beer. That means 44 breweries were still serving guests with 90 minutes to go. We are sorry if there was a beer you wanted to try that was gone before you got to it. Most importantly, there was still great beer available from a number of breweries at the end of the event.
