So it's actually free (or they're getting paid to buy one) for the regular Muggers who, you know, use the benefits for which the club was designed?

Locals maybe, yes. The extra 4oz pours could add up to $100 pretty quick if you drink at the taproom on the reg.

First, as mentioned, mug club membership comes with other benefits. You can't simply lump it in with any bottles that are received. It was never meant as a bottle society and expecting that will only set the member up for disappointment.

Second, Rue the Crown was exclusive to the mug club.

You are correct. Completely forgot about that one. My mistake!

My main point is, TG is increasing the price significantly on this beer this year because of the hype and notoriety around it. It's unfortunate they chose not to keep it at the usual $25/bomber and instead doubled the price, primary due to the fact of secondary market and hype and most likely NOT due to double the increased costs to produce the beer.

Why should they leave all that money on the table when a-holes are going to sell it for $400 though? No, I don't think TG should price it that high, but $50, fine good for them

Those big beers are notorious for being almost break even price points. The price tag is absolutely valid given the effort and time that goes into it. Then the quality is nearly unmatched.

To quote Don't be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood, "You don't like, you don't buy."

I guess I don't really agree with the sentiment that because it is being sold illegally on the secondary market for insane prices, that means TG is "missing out on money" and therefore are increasing their prices. If they feel like they are missing on what their beer is worth on the secondary market, then why not just charges secondary market prices themselves? People would still buy it, right?

MD was not worth the $40 price tag, but I'm sure Assassin will be worth $50 and I'd gladly buy a case at that price.

There are still plenty of world-class "big beers" that are in the $20/bottle range. The notion that something like Assassin or Double Barrel Huna or others of that ilk take 2 1/2 times the resources to make than something like Central Waters 16 is just silly.

That said, I have been suckered into my first $50+ bottle purchase for DBH. Such is life.

I'll have to check those out. I recently got in a Black Note from a trade but haven't had it yet. I live only 2 hours away from CW, so hoping those others will be easy-ish to get.

Yes, I do believe more work is involved with a beer such as Assassin. The level of effort and discipline that it takes to produce that and other BA offerings at TG is insane.

More work, possibly more raw material, hours, barrels, time and space all cost money. I'm not saying 2.5x more, but that's life.
Fountain soda costs pennies, yet we pay $1.50 at a fast food place for it. That's much higher up-charge!
    Just saying.

The most it costs to produce any bottle of wine in the world is $30 yet some bottles sell for thousands due to quality and rarity. My guess is today's prices for top of the line beers will look very cheap at some point in the future.

If prices were set based on how much is costs to produce something, this argument would make sense. Unfortunately, that isn't the case.

It is obvious that TG is missing out on money by not increasing prices. Consumers will clearly pay it and that extra $25 per bottle is pure profit. TG would be crazy not to.

If we assume 1000 bottles of Assassin (which could be way off in either direction) that is a $25,000 that they would have left on the table which is enough to hire another full-time employee at ~$10/hour .
