Assassin will be on tap at local establishments on the bottle release day. That's a really good idea - if you don't get a bottle you can still seek out a pour somewhere.

I was in the taproom a couple of weeks ago and overheard the staff talking about the event. They're going to give everyone 48 hours to sign up for the lottery, so there's no reason to be overly aggressive in stalking their twitter and FB accounts.

Phew, that's a relief. I've then got ~47 hours to figure out how to skirt the lottery rules.

That will let about 1000000 people sign up.

That makes my odds about 1000 times more than I expected.

I thought this event was well-run, having a mix of some kegs up front and some in the back could have smoothed out the line and made the beers more available to a wider audience (or having a more bar stafff able to to serve customers hanging out in the back room or a second queue) but socially as well as the quality of the beers across the board made it worth the wait.

Today's run of King Sue is their first with 2016 Citra crop, the DDH Sue packaged recently that tastes phenomenal is still 2015 but they have some Sue fermenting now that that is also 2016 crop and tonight's tasted soft, round, fruity and delicious.

2016 Assassin is aged in Heaven Hill's Elijah Craig barrels and is very chocolate forward with some prominent vanilla and some stonefruit that was cherry-like to me in the background. Very pleasant and not at all boozy. Mike mentioned they still have some in barrels. What was served tonight was kegged just today same as King Sue.

Cheers to Mike and Murph from TG and Bruno and everyone at Iowa Taproom for putting on a great event and handling such a large crowd with as much grace as they could muster. I had great customer service experiences tonight despite understandably long lines for Assassin and the rest of TG's finest.

Imagine how much money they'll make when they charge $5 just to buy a lottery ticket!!! That new brewery will be paid of in no time.

    From TG's Facebook:

On January 13, 2017 Toppling Goliath will be holding a simultaneous release of two show-stopping barrel-aged beers, Kentucky Brunch Brand Stout (KBBS) and Assassin Imperial Stout. One thousand lucky lottery winners will be invited to the Toppling Goliath taproom in Decorah, Iowa, where, for $200 they will purchase an impressive boxed set of brews. Included will be 2 bottles (22 oz. each) of Assassin, a rich Imperial Stout aged for over a year in Kentucky Bourbon barrels and 1 piece of Assassin glassware. Complementing this will be 1 bottle (12 oz.) of Kentucky Brunch Brand Stout, an intensely aromatic beer with a blend of espresso and maple syrup, packaged in a limited edition, branded wooden box and 1 piece of KBBS glassware.

Registration for tickets will run for FIVE DAYS. Regardless of when you register, everyone will have the opportunity to sign up once. All registrants will have an equal chance in the lottery, no matter when you register within the 5-day registration window. There is no benefit or consequence to when you sign up within the open registration period. Attempts to enter multiple times will result in disqualification.

We know you’re excited, and we will be monitoring registrations closely. If too many people register at the same time and fail to take advantage of the 5-day registration window for a relaxed registration process, you may see delayed times in your ability to sign up, so please check back at a later time within the 5-day window.

Agree on the spreading on the taps...the line heading to the back was nuts....also, a little more communication would have been nice . ....we didnt know they had pre-pours of Assasin waiting for ticket holders (myself and some buddies), until we questioned some others we thought were cutting the line....i do admit that once i got my Assassin pour the night got exponentially better....we found a spot at the bar in the back and easily got pours of everything....seemed like getting through the madness up front was the true test.....

Still wish they would charge people $200 up front, that would prevent people from a) buying the $5 ticket for fun when why know they can't go and 2) thinking more seriously before they buy the ticket

I'm sure the diehard TG fans will not appreciate my thoughts on the assassin/kbbs release but what I find really interesting is the cost of this release. $200 for 56 ounces of beer and 2 glasses. It's almost like TG is enabling the flipping of their beer. I mean, you almost can't afford not to sell or trade these due to the cost. I personally don't buy beer to sell or trade. I buy it to drink, so to think i would spend $200 on 3 bottles (1 of which is 12 oz) plus some glass is unfathomable. That's not even including the travel and accommodation costs. That's why my perspective is that these prices seem to be enabling the second hand flipping of their beer rather than discouraging it. I'm scratching my head.
