I'm driving from Kansas City to Tampa over the next few days. Please tell me which stouts I should look for on store shelves along the way. No need to mention the whales. I already know most of those. What I'm asking for is a recommendation on anything full bodied (high ABV), delicious, and currently flying under the radar. Stuff that I'm likely to be able to find on the shelf today. I'm not defined by any precise route yet so beers in TN, GA, NC, SC and FL are all fair game.

I will also be traveling with a few gems of my own that will be available for trade if anyone in the Tampa area wants to meet me with their double barrel Huna's!

    Thanks

Wicked weed dark age is available this time of the year through NC. Pricey at $10 for a 12oz, but worth trying if you like sweet stouts.

If Event Horizon is no longer available., try their Imperial Stout.

I was just in Asheville this weekend and Appalachian Vintner had plenty of Event Horizon (I picked up another for myself). I'm sure there is plenty in Charlotte if you are traveling that way.
EDIT: If you are heading towards Charleston (my home), Westbrook just released their 6th Anniversary beer (Chocolate and hazelnut stout). There should be plenty in the taproom this week. If you are here on Saturday, COAST is releasing bottles of BA Blackbeerd (Heaven Hill barrels). I've had it on tap and it is great. Their whole BA Blackbeerd series has been top-notch!

You won't find it at any bottle shops in Jacksonville but Aardwolf still has bottles of their rum barrel aged White Russian milk stout available at their brewery. I thought it was fantastic.

I think folks have NC and Florida covered. In Tennessee, Blackstone's black belle BA imperial stout is good and will be around. Their coffee stout is really good too. Probably a few weeks early but on the off chance they are around, wiseacre astronaut status and straight to ale Laika (especially the Cabernet barrel variant) are great. In Georgia, last time I was there I still saw some Monday night Georgian imperial stout around. Not earth shattering, but certainly very solid. Not local or off the radar, but prairie stouts are wonderfully cheap in Georgia too. Finally, you might catch Westbrook 6th in distro. I haven't heard when it will start showing up but it'll be worth keeping an eye out for.

You should definitely be able to find EH. It's great and ages really well. Buy multiple bottles.

Mother Earth's Silent Night (BBA imp coffee stout) is pretty delicious. It should be hitting stores this week and next in NC if places don't already have it.

Some bottleshops in Greensboro still have Olde Hickory's Dread God (Imp stout aged in Scotch barrels) on the shelves, so you might be able to find it elsewhere without too much trouble.

Pisgah's Mountain County Stout (BBA imp coffee stout) is hanging around my neck of the woods and is quite fantastic. Haven't heard a lot of hype surrounding it, so it might not have large distribution. That said, keep your eyes out if you hit up a bottleshop in Western/Central NC.

I don't think it's on many people's radar, but if you are traveling through Georgia, look for Burnt Hickory Big Shanty Graham Cracker stout. One of my favorites!
