I got impatient waiting for my homebrew to carb up, had to know what it tastes like this year. First time brewing this recipe all grain, Pilsner malt, light Munich, and carapils. Big dose of Saaz in the boil with a little Tettnang and then a good dry hop with Tettnang.

Malts have a little bready sweetness and some nice toast character. Saaz provides that clean noble hop bitterness with a spicy floral flavor and the Tettnang gives it a nice earthy grassy flavor and aroma. Once it carbs up it's going to be crisp and clean.

    Cheers!

It's starve a fever, give a cold another beer, right? Snow is still coming down around here, but it doesn't seem to be sticking where I shoveled this morning, thankfully.

With the Super Bowl, NBS, and my brother over to share a few brews, I didn't even notice that until later. It was a pretty memorable beer from a small brewery. A happy accident! My source is searching for another bottle. Congrats to you and your teams historic victory!

Light snow is falling again and it has put me in the mood for more barrel aged goodness. Or perhaps I'm just convincing myself to buy another four pack of this beer?

Clear, bright, light ruby red color with white cap and good lacing.

Aroma of bread yeast and light toffee. Light hop spice.

Taste is malt forward with more of a darker caramel than toffee flavor. Very light touch of roasted barley without bitterness. I get a bit of sweetness that doesn't come across as actually sweet. Hops enough to accent but don't shout their presence. Aftertaste a is muted melange of what came before and perhaps this is where an otherwise well made beer falls off somewhat. It's like everybody rushed to the door at 5:00 without clocking out.

Medium texture accented by the prickle of carbonation.

I keep using the word light but there isn't anything really light about this beer. I guess I'm saying light touches that somehow add up to a fairly substantial brew. The whole of the parts make up more than pale but less than dark. Red color is the premise so color is directing the process by adding darker malt that really isn't bringing anything to the table that was actually needed. Not a bad brew by any measure, or even a flawed one, yet instead of a flavorful pale or richer dark this just seems like a lot of work to come up with something middling.
