I will be visiting NYC from Chicago Tuesday, March 21st to Friday, March 24th. I've skimmed over other threads and made notes. Just trying to get tips tailored to my particular trip. Tuesday and Wednseday, I'll be at Times Square (W 46th St and Broadway). Thursday and Friday, I'll be in the southern edge of the Williamsburg area by Lee and Flushing Ave.

So far, I have on my agenda to try to visit are:

(Tuesday/Wednesday): The Pony Bar (Upper East Side), The Ginger Man, Rattle N Hum West, McSorley's Old Ale House, (maybe) Katz' Deli, (maybe) World Trade Center Site/Memorial

(Thursday/Friday): Other Half, Threes, KCBC, The Well, Interboro, (maybe) Torst, (maybe) Singlecut, (maybe) LIC Beer Project

    My questions are:
1-Any other spots close by where I'm staying worth checking out?

2-From all the beermenu.com snooping I've done about the bars, it seems like they get a lot of stuff that's available back in Chicago. So in this case, I'll be looking for bars that might have the more sought after breweries on tap such as Hill Farmstead and/or bars that will have beers from breweries I may not have time to visit like Grimm, Singlecut, LIC, and Finback. My question is, are there particular bars that tend to get kegs/cans from Hill Farmstead, Tree House, Grimm, Singlecut etc...more often than other spots and what are those spots?

3-I'm assuming some Whole Foods are the best spots to buy canned/bottled beer to take back home. Any good ones by my areas where I'm staying or is it worth it to travel to a farther WF that has a bigger, better selection?

4-Any locals know if there are any UHauls or other spots that always sell 12 bottle wine shippers on-site near were I'm staying? Just in case I go overboard buying beer, I can ship some back to myself in Chicago.

5-Just have to ask, there's good cell service for Sprint, right? I went to Decorah, Iowa back in January and my phone was basically a paperweight there.

Mugs Alehouse in Williamsburg still has a bunch of excellent stouts on tap from the festival they had last weekend. You can check out their taplist by using the Beerboard app.

Brooklyn Harvest Market on Union Avenue in Williamsburg is probably the best bottle shop in NYC. The beer selection at the WFs in NYC have been getting worse, and I think the only one worth checking out now is the one on the Bowery.

Of the bars on your list, I would prioritize The Well(awesome list and humongous comfy place), Ginger Man(great list and great prices but gets very crowded/loud), Rattle and Hum West(great list, low key). FWIW, I never go to Pony Bar- mediocre list and packed. Within a mile of OH are some nice bars you might want to add to your list- Bar Great Harry, Mission Delores and Owl Farm.

Grimm does not have a brewery to visit. If you want OH cans, you need to get there around 9AM on Saturday. LIC is releasing 2 cans this week and Singlecut is releasing a BA Stout on Thursday, which will be around this weekend.

    Hope you enjoy your trip,

A quick (5-10 mins) subway ride to Haymaker at 29th and 8th is a decent bet for Grim, HF, and OH...as well as other sought after local beers.

While the menu is sure to change, the brewerys I mentioned above are currently on offer....

I'd say good luck, but finding good beer in NYC, is like shooting fish in a barrel.

Yeah, beermenus is great in NY, one "trick" that helps for someone like you, is when you click on the brewery (such as Grimm), it shows you each bar, by distance, that has each beer from them.
To your other question, Whole Foods is a great place to buy many beers, their prices are competitive and the people there are helpful. The two closest to you are great for beer, particularly the one at Colombus Circle, which has a great 6-8 taps of mainly local beer (beermenus: "on tap at colombus circle". Tons of other great bottle shops (the BA guide to NY has them), but as far as walkable for you with limited capacity, WF may not be bad, unless there are certain special things you are looking for (Top Hops, Good Beer, etc, on Lower East Side). Have fun, with a little work there is just way too much here these days. Haymaker is awesome, and sometimes has special ones you can take to go; I also really enjoy As Is, which is close to your place, often has small pours, and often has amazing stuff on tap.

fools gold tends to always have a few rotating HF on tap...looks like right now they have 4 HF taps and at times i've seen them have 5-6 HF taps, i'd keep an eye out on their list. seems like the only time this isn't the case is when they have tap takeovers. if you want a good cross-section of NYC beer threes generally has a whole bunch of local (non-threes) options on tap, and also sells bottles/cans of a handful of NYC breweries to go as well.

Tree House doesn't leave their brewery in Monson, MA. No chance of finding that on tap or cans around NYC, unless you set up an in person trade.

Also keep in mind our Hudson Valley brewers frequently show up on taps. Rushing Duck, Industrial Arts, Suarez, Sloop, Peekskill, etc. Have fun!

Oh, and if you like spicy food you absolutely must hit up one of the Xi'an Famous Foods locations in walking distance.

Definitely second the As Is recommendation. It's nearby where you're staying Tues/Weds (on 50th and 10th). They'll always have many options from the NYC Breweries you're looking for and have recently had a lot of the Hudson Valley breweries @TongoRad mentioned. Great relaxed vibe, tasty small plates for food.

Also, BeerCulture on 45th btwn 8th and 9th is a bar/shop worth checking out since it's so close to where you're staying. Their draft list is decent, but they should have some bottles/cans for sale that may interest you.

Great recs itt. I also agree with As Is. Quickly becoming my favorite craft bar in Manhattan.

I hope the Interboro/Pipeworks collab lasts through the weekend for @Born_A_Jee. I'd offer to grab you some but I'm not going to be able to make it this weekend myself.

Torst is a must. Also, hit Peter Pan donuts down the block, awesome selection of great donuts!

Also, you have a good list, but it is pretty ambitious, you likely won't hit all the places on it. Also, note, most breweries are not open during the day.

You should head to the East Village and check out Augurs Well and Proletariat. You also have the added bonus of finding some amazing dumplings in this cold weather.

was going to say this as well...your Tuesday/Wednesday list basically covers the majority of manhattan (UES to midtown west to LES to FiDi)...over two days it is doable but will certainly involve a lot of travel time/subway transfers/ubers etc. might be able to get more bang for your buck if you focus more "beer dense" areas (i.e. skip pony bar upper east and do fools gold and/or one mile house which are both walking distance of each other, katz, as well as WF bowery and top hops which are both great bottle shops)

doesn't get mentioned much on this site, but close to where you are staying at 38th st bet 7/8th s District Taphouse... can get crowded, but has a big tap list, and usually at least 8-10 very solid local beers and food is pretty good... can get crowded though... currently 2 Grimms on tap, Barrier, Finback, two by Industrial Arts, KCBC, LIC Beer project, Singlecut, Sloop, just to name a handful,,,

I'll 3rd or 4th As Is.... Really impressive tap list and the small pours they offer allows you to sample more.

9th Avenue Vinter has some options and is close enough that there is no reason not to check it out.

If you go to Single Cut, Astoria Bier and Cheese is few blocks away and gets some pretty good stuff in and usually has a solid tap list.

Also, if/before you go to As Is, it may be worth stopping into Clinton gourmet, 45th and 10th to buy cans/bottles .. very nice staff, they aren't the cheapest but have some great stuff and sometimes you can luck on some limited stuff there

The Well and District Tap House get Grimm on tap plenty. Check out menus! If you hit up Astoria Judy Punch is a good little spot that gets Grimm. They had Lambo and Lumen last I saw a few days ago.

Please don't encourage anyone to visit Brooklyn Harvest. They are a grocery store, not a bottle shop and certainly not the best in NYC. They are dishonest and price gouge. Plenty of other bottle shops in the neighborhood to spend money at.

It is true that they are a grocery store, but they certainly don't price gouge, or if they did, it might have been on a couple of items. Generally, they have better prices than most of the bottle shops in NYC and a far better selection.
